eventually the drivers that will take up the challenge will be Carmen Jorda and her modelling friends, turning into an even more sexist shit show "look at this racing series, the drivers are crap, but they're pretty"

So what you're saying is that these drivers are being auditioned for roles at Renault F1 and the FIA?

judging by the female drivers that want to be taken more seriously, quite sure they'll say no and leave that for FIA haha

Yeah, I doubt my Mrs would fit the profile of women they are looking for, to quote her she is, "too old, too fat and not blonde enough".

Is Milka Duno still calling herself a driver?

She's like my wife, too old, probably too fat now and not blonde enough.

Well she is 46. Way above the cutline for age. No doubt they'll avoid any one over 23...

Wouldn't be suprised if they called her for her "experience".

The reality is that any genuinely talented female driver who can hold her own against male drivers on a level-playing field at F3 level or above would never need to compete a series like this. I always feel really sad about what happened to Lorraine Peck - everything I've heard about her suggests she would have been a genuine game-changer. Someone with her level of ability in karting today would attract a huge amount of attention and sponsorship regardless of any gimmicky segregated series. There is a heck of a lot of sexism in motorsport, but if someone proves they can race to a high level, a lot of that discrimination ends up slipping into the background - just look at Lewis, for instance

As RtN said, who are these other drivers whose careers stalled in F3? Claudia Hurtgen got her hand mangled. Susie Wolff got several years in the DTM and an F1 test seat. Did Ellen Lohr even do single-seaters? Bia Figueiredo and Pippa Mann went to the US. Who else is there - Rahel Frey? Sarah Moore? Alice Powell? Scraping the barrel much...

Definitely not when you consider that DC said last year that women are genetically predisposed to not being able to win or some bullshit

I think this Jalopnik article is a very fair appraisal. Clearly providing funding for female drivers would be much more effective. But then maybe that's the issue - the noble assistance aspect is undermined by the fact that it's clearly being set up as a business opportunity...

Quoting my wife again, but "DC was partly right, boobies get in the way too much and it'll get uncomfortable sitting in that position for extended periods", by that she was referring to sitting in a Swift SC92 FFord with your elbows dug into your tits, which isn't much different seat-wise to a modern day F1.

Peggy Bundy is pretty much like Milka Duno with red hair

Maybe she'll be called to "tutor" the young female drivers, and if that happen poor girls

Haven't read or seen it posted elsewhere, my POV; why not see it as a way promoting motorsport (in this case, for women) since it is vastly dominated by men. I hate this new world stuff which often fail to catch the upside of things causing a stir.

There are sports in which genders are separated and then there's those who don't. Maybe I'd see it differently would I not be a dude.

There are sports where muscle strength or other factors are important that are justified in having mens and womens' competitions, but racing is not one of them. The W Series doesn't improve integration of women into professional motorsports, it further segregates them as a sort of side show. Imagine a racing series restricted to black people and you might start to get an idea why this has caused a bit of a stir.

I don't see it as a side show. I'd follow the series like any other having my favourite teams and drivers.

Which is also part of the problem, the naysayer thinks that everyone else thinks its a joke.

If this were a low tier formula aiming at getting women from karts/regional meets into a more professional entry level single seater series, then I think that this would be a success. As long as they basically create a motorsport scholarship kind of thing that provides a clear pathway or opportunities into other categories or services (driver instruction or coaching etc).
