Tough break for Gosia Rdest who qualified 4th but damaged her wing in the first corner and had to pit.

Good to see Garcia win. It kinda prevents the Chadwick/Visser whitewash.

Emma Kimilainen wins at Assen.

Finally a clean race for Rdest who finished 6th.

Kimiläinen is FAST. But she crashed a lot when she was in STCC. Great however to see that she lost non of her speed after a couple of years off.

Also, has any other mother won a motor race at this kind of level before??

Without the injury at Hockenheim I guess she could have battled Chadwick & Visser for the title IMO.

The bigger question remains: has anyone who has given birth ever won a motor race at this level?

Lyn St. James don't have any children AFAIK; Michele Mouton retired from rallying when she started her family,so this could be a milestone.

St. James & Janet Guthrie didn't have any children, likewise Desire Wilson, Ellen Lohr, Claudia Hurtgen or Jutta Kleinschmidt. Pat Moss giving birth basically ended her career.

Patricia Watson-Miller probably won some motocross & rally raid races though.

That's really the only difference in racing between men and women. Realistically, for a woman to have a long career, they have to make a sacrifice that men do not. Sure, they could take a year or so off, which would most likely mean 1 full season and an incomplete season, thus meaning they wouldn't be in the running for a championship. In this day and age when a career can be made or destroyed in less than a season, taking substantial time off to start a family is something sponsors, car owners, etc. aren't going to want to deal with.

Emma Kimilainen is an exception, but she started her family only after it appeared her racing career was over. At least according to Wiki.

Kimiläinen raced in the Nordic Radical championship inbetween 2009 and 2014 somewhere (and won it IIRC), and had a child at that period.

Good clean racing (mostly). And an epic photo finish.

There was time for it in the Assen schedule. So why not? Test some shizzle out before next season, if reverse grids would be nice to do regurlarly.

Seemed like as good a race you could have for single seaters at brands gp.

On the upside my gf has become a follower of this series now, she seemed to care who won so....I'll take that

So Jamie Chadwick and the rest of the top 12 are seemingly coming back for a second season

Without wanting to sound dismissive and flippant...that's not exactly the sort of springboard towards F1 they were hoping for, is it? I'm not sure they wanted to create a series with the same 12 drivers coming back year after year. I guess a career's a career so if it's working for them, fair play. But it's not what it was meant to be

I don't think the idea of W was to fully springboard a woman to F1, I think it was more self serving than that.

Fuck it, give them faster cars and be a proper rival to F1

Fuck getting them on the F1 ladder, become your own thing, Formula W
