Set my alarm to the wrong time for the race because I either misread the timetable or am bad at maths. Good start to the weekend

Anyway that's good damage limitation by Mick but the points swing to Ilott shows how easy it would be to throw this away even when driving relatively well

Very impressive races by championship contenders but especially Schumacher. Illott played it smart to avoid any battles in the first stint to manage his tires and then put in some rapid laps after his pit stop. Schumacher's start and first lap was simply mega and then some really ballsy passes on the second stint to get all the way up to P4. He should be able to claw back some of his points advantage back tomorrow based on starting position, but there's literally no margin for error for either driver now.

Interesting bias from the commentators, when Schumacher did a "heroic job" and was in "championship winning form", and no mention of his bad qualifying that put him behind the 8-ball in the first place and Iilot quietly getting on with 2nd and narrowing the gap

Also was pretty impressed by Daruvla defending from Mick at the end, put his car in exactly the right places without being dirty or swerving Mick off the road and still managed to defend from a faster car on better tyres and hold him off until the end.
Kudos.

Not crazy about the scheduling however, was expecting this race to be after F1 Qualy or at least between FP3 and Qualy but that early seemed a bit annoying.
Luckily I managed to find a torrent without being spoilt. But still, priorities, eh?

Didn't notice any bias from the commentators. They were equally praiseworthy of Illott's qualifying performance, Tsunoda's recovery drive etc. Heroic may be bit of a stretch but it was a very ballsy drive from Schumacher to make the moves that he did at the start/first lap and then later in the race with a championship on the line. He could've easily have played it safe and coasted home in P6/P7. So I'd say only the people with an obvious ongoing bias against Schumacher might feel the commentators were biased. :whistling:

Daruvala's defense was...overly robust and questionable at times especially his late moving under braking a couple times. He's lucky Schumacher backed out of it with his eye on the championship otherwise it likely would've ended in tears for one or both of them with defensive moves like that. Plus, the Prema's were lousy on the medium's all weekend and never looked particularly threatening on that tire.

Ilott almost crashed into Schumacher. Hit Daruvala instead. VSC.

Mick may have been lucky in that race but he was really unlucky at the end - he just happened to meet Piquet at a corner, had to slow down and that brought Lundgaard back into DRS distance which allowed him to pass. Wonder if that'll end up having any bearing on the championship - 14 points isn't unassailable by any means, and he appears to be handling the pressure about as well as his dad did in close contents

Yeah noticed the same thing too. Unfortunately Piquet chose to plant his ailing car right on the racing line as Schumacher approached and he had to slow right down putting him into the clutches of Lundgaard. Overall, really scruffy race by Schumacher. Didn't look threatening at any stage of the race. And it seemed like every defensive move he made, some of which were really marginal I have to say, only served to put him in the clutches of the car behind. He would've been better off just sticking to the racing line and letting the car behind pass on the inside and then try to come back at it in the next DRS zone.

Felt really bad for Ilott. He was driving a pretty solid race and that monster lockup and smoke screen by Schumacher, I think he was just trying to take avoiding action and then ended up locking his own brakes and had no chance of avoiding Daruvala. Thought the drive thru penalty was a tad harsh, but his race was already ruined by that point.

Finale is going to be pretty fun to watch, will come right down to the wire.

Yeah lllot's move was definitely trying to avoid hitting an early braking Schumacher than trying anything like an overtake.
Gutting for him but yeah obviously his fault.

Not sure what Mick was playing at after that, he still was swerving at people and putting his tyres against other people's front wings, not the mark of a champion to try and knock other people aside from overtaking you when you have a lead in a championship to protect.

What will probably be more gutting for Illot is that the lock up that caused him to veer from hitting Mick would've also meant he finished quite a few places ahead of Mick had the accident not happened since it clearly screwed Schumacher's tyre degredation
What might have been....

Reversing the top 10 in qualifying for the first race? The fuck? So it's better to qualify 10th than on pole. Genius.
