Yeah, thank god there are no grandstands there. The catchfence clearly didn't do its job. It's not even a freak accident, just two cars colliding together. We have seen it happen at Blanchimont, but never with those consequences. I think the fact the car was split in half somehow ricocheted the cockpit even higher.

The problem is apparently Sasahara's car caught air before hitting the 130R barriers which launched it much higher than any catch-fence test would imagine. I suppose these test are done while cars hitting the wall at various angles but what do you do if the car is launched off another one? That's pure video game stuff. We've seen a couple of 130R crashes in Super Formula where the car flips over after impact but at relative low speed which indicates the tec-pro wall does its job.

I suppose every Japanese driver who gets to Super Formula level knows Suzuka like the back of their hand hence they try passing moves into 130R at a much higher rate compared to F1 or other international races there?

I don't think they've ever expected a car to clear that high, after all there was a fence at the top. If there was a grandstand it's likely there would have been a double fence.

The tub was a third of the weight it usually is as the back came off on the first impact, so it went higher. I don't think it even touched the fence.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Liam Lawson takes pole for the last race. Nojiri third so only one point gained over Miyata so this means if Nojiri wins the race Miyata can still finish 2nd and take the title (by 0.5 points). Let's see if Mugen forces Lawson to give up the win and hold Miyata down in 3rd place which would be the neccessary script.

Ohta takes the lead ahead of Lawson and Miyata jumps Nojiri into 3rd. Worst case scenario for Mugen after 8 laps.

This was the final running order and Nojiri had no pace during the race and had to pass Matsushita to regain 4th place.

Ritomo Miyata wins the 2023 title ahead of Lawson and Nojiri.

FP1 over and Juju Noda was 2.5 secs slower than the next slowest driver. It will be a loooong season

Was there much basis for hype even previously? Outside top 10 in W Series (2022) and last year 8th in EuroFormula Open. Last year she won F2000 Italian Formula Trophy and was 2nd in the Austrian equivalent (some shared weekends) but not sure if these are even worth mentioning in this context (semi-amateur series if I have understood correctly).

Then then suddently a move to a series where much more qualified and seasoned drivers have had hard time.

Hideki manages her horribly. He prefers to put her in random series with weak competition where she can win and use that as credit instead of letting her develop with adequate competition like F1A or F4.

Not to mention allowing her to run only partial schedules as he sees fit. Like in US F4, when they bailed out of the championship after ONE practice session (where she had the best laptime).
How is that supposed to help her develop as a professional driver? What a waste of a potential talent.

Nojiri takes the lead from 3rd on the grid, Juju almost went off in T1 kicking up a lot of dust but somehow continued. Kotaka and Kunimoto collided on lap 2 and SC.
