According to this week's Autosport, former amateur Atlantic racer Ben Johnston, who is in the process of buying the Atlantics series from KK and GF, is planning a new two-class arrive-and-drive series, provisionally dubbed "Grand Prix", for next year using the Panoz DP01s (with Cosworth engines detuned to 650bhp) and the final generation Reynards (also with Cossies detuned to 500bhp). The first round is scheduled to take place at Savannah, Georgia in March. He has already got hold of 17 Reynards and is currently picking up as many DP01s as he can

Interesting to see the old cars are going to be put to use

Any idea what sort of track Savannah is?

There's a lot of old A1GP cars lying around too, maybe something will happen with them too...

What about the support of the parts, engines, tyres? The license of that has stopped, right?
If they don't renew that, it will become some sort of EuroBoss series.

I'd ask if Mosley has a good offer ready.

Why would you want them to sit dormant in a warehouse or museum somewhere?

There should be an Open Wheel Masters series, like how GPM was, and these cars would have been perfect for it: talented drivers in nice looking cars going fast.

Forget the shitty Panoz.

A series with the Lolas/Reynards/Eagles/Swifts/Penskes would be ace.

Don't get exceited. This will be way less professional than EuroBOSS.

Anyway, better than not seeing them again.

They should do this for the IRL. Fuck the Dallara, bring back the old CART cars of the late '90s.

I just hope someone points a TV camera at them at some point so we can all get nostalgic and sigh warmly.

I hope no-one is suggesting that this is to be a rival of the "reunified" IRL :?

Those cars are too old though for today. What we need is a new design that looks better.

Not yet but, maybe not ever but I like what I'm hearing from this and it COULD be if somethings get worked out it could be very entertaining. I can tell you the plan is not to be some second rate Euro BOSS knock off.

Given Reynard doesn't exist (so when the chassis are done, that's them done) and the DP01s are a heap shit, he is going to need more than those to turn it into anything decent. Get knocking on Lolas door.

I think Ben Johnston Should concentrate on getting a TV deal for the Atlantics first. I'd love to see the races somewhere...
