I'd say it's more dangerous at Indy than the other tracks, considering that there's only one real racing line during the race. I say, bring back the fucking apron goddammit.

I like the idea of heat races! it adds something different to the generic format we are used to

But would an apron bring in a yellow line rule? Two-edged sword, that.

They tried that in 1989. It didn't work out.

Yeah, and in 1993 they removed the apron because there were too many shortcuts. So the apron didn't work out either.

They removed the apron because of the severity of the accidents that were there in 1992. The theory was to reduce the angle at which the cars hit the wall, but the real problem was that the cars weren't long enough in the footbox area.

I'm surprised no-one has noticed this bit from the Autosport article:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97525

Quote:
New race director Beaux Barfield indicated that standing starts could be introduced for some events later in the year.

"I've spent the past five weeks writing rules and I have to write a lot more rules for standing starts," Barfield told the official IndyCar website.

"There's a lot of equipment necessary to get and put into place, and most importantly there's so much development going on with the teams and the cars that I want to be respectful of before I throw a lot of new things at them.

.....that'll go down well! 8O

I'd rather have that than a rolling start where the first 2 rows are lined up and there's a big mess behind, including the last rows not even on the S/F straight when they give the green.

So, to me, learn how to properly do a rolling start or just go with the standing start.

Its confusing they're trying to bring in some aspects of getting back to its roots with the heat racing at Iowa and yet on the other hand bringing in some aspects of F1 Light with the standing starts, which didn't go down too well when Champcar did it either.

Almost like they're trying to differentiate the oval and road course aspects of the championships to attract different drivers to it....

Standing starts don't mix with IndyCar.

It went down very well when ChampCar did it, once they had sorted out all the initial problems.
