Brands Hatch has been confirmed :D

Brands Hatch round confirmed

By Steven English Monday, September 8th 2008, 15:24 GMT

A1GP has confirmed that the coming season's UK round of the series will once again be the championship finale at Brands Hatch.

The Kent circuit had been in doubt as the venue of the British race after the provisional calendar was released with no track confirmed.

It was believed that three other circuits were in contention for the event, but the series has confirmed that it will visit Brands for the fourth consecutive season.

It hosted the inaugural A1GP round in September 2005 and moved to the end of the calendar for the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons, where it will remain for 2008/09 on May 1-3.

A1GP's chief executive officer Pete da Silva said: "We're pleased to announce A1GP is returning to Brands Hatch for a fourth consecutive season.

"We've worked hard to put together an interesting calendar of challenging circuits for the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari cars, and Brands will provide an exciting final venue.

Awesome 8) I know it's only been 3 seasons but Brands Hatch is like A1GP's signature track now, it'd be strange for them not to go there.

Shouldn't pre-season testing start shortly? Because it isn't long till the season starts! :)

Well yeah, it may be only three seasons, but Brands and Sepang are the only tracks from the original season still hosting events this season.

Brands Hatch confirmed for A1GP?

Good for them (though I think they'd get more passing if they went to Silverstone or something...) but probably means the BTCC will get booted back to the Indy layout for it's finale!

Yeah, I thought about that. I was also watching World Motorsports today and they were saying they might have the DTM on the GP track next season. Not all these series can have it!

I highly doubt DTM will use the entire circuit, the new contract is for the Indy Version only from what I know

Again, I don't know if there was any substance to the comment, but the Sky commentator said that the heads of the DTM championship really wanted it to stay on the Indy circuit because then the fans can see the cars more. That's a really stupid logic, because seeing the cars more does not make it more interesting (Champ Car at Brands 2003 being the perfect example). Also, I like to have a bit of a break from the cars each lap. When everyone is constantly going past, you lose track of what is actually happening in the race.

This are the times of the testdays, I think combined.

Quote:
Official Test Session Day Two (combined times)

P A1 Team Driver Time Laps

1 Malaysia Fairuz Fauzy 1:17.474 89

2 Netherlands Jeroen Bleekemolen 1:17.886 62

3 Australia John Martin 1:17.896 87

4 New Zealand Chris van der Drift 1:18.364 75

5 South Africa Adrian Zaugg 1:18.694 72

6 A1GP Test Car Thomas Biagi 1:20.889 26

7 Italy Edoardo Piscopo/ Fabio Onidi 1:21.872 55

Times look 1 second faster than Superleuge Formula, but don't know what the conditions where.
