It'll still be dangerous.

That or incredibly boring. Either way.

Even though the IRL cars are slower than CART cars, I'm thinking G-Forces might pose a problem at Bristol (kind of like CART at Texas).

Would be worse than when they raced them at Dover.

Since we're talking about short tracks and pipe dreams ITT, imagine a fully upgraded North Wilkesboro with IndyCar racing on it.

I would love to see IndyCars at Bristol, since I do only live five miles from the track. :D

How about this...

Since Bristol sucks ever since they reconfigured the track...why not Indycar and Salem Speedway work together to fix up that track (add more stands, repaving maaaybe) and run a weekend in the summer that features everything from USAC sprints to Indy lights to Indy cars. And of course run it all at night. This way Indy car has its own bullring rather than having to mooch off another Nascar track (SMI or ISC). I think the fans there would be all over it since the track doesn't get any Nascar dates and Salem has/does run a lot of open wheel stuff. ARCA packs the place full, so I'm sure the IRL could too.

First of all, fixing up the track would mean spending money which is something that the IRL doesnt have alot of. Secondly, that race would suck. The cars would have so much downforce and there would barely be any passing. The smallest track that indy cars should run at is Iowa, thats it. Anything smaller and it will be a boring race.

What if they teamed up with USAC to fix the track up (since they run there anyway) and what if they started running their cars with less downforce? I know its a pipe dream but since people keep bringing up Bristol I thought I'd throw it out there.

If nothing else, Salem Speedway is in the middle of nowhere, with Indianapolis and Kentucky Speedway both within a two hour drive. Not really the kind of market that IndyCar is looking for. Yeah, ARCA usually draws good crowds, but the stands don't even fit 10,000 people. Not to mention I dread the day they repave Salem -- it'll kill the racing for a good decade until it gets all worn out and slippery and bumpy again. :)

I'm not sure why people bring up Bristol. More realistic pipe dreams are to beef up tracks like Pocono and Texas World Speedway to an actual realistic safety level; bring back Atlanta or Charlotte; or maybe even consider tracks like Darlington. None of these mind you are my first choice at all; it's just that these are more realistic for Indy racing versus a small bullring like Salem or Bristol (especially banked ones like Bristol. Might as well suggest Winchester while you are at it)...

IRL horsepower without the formula car downforce is, essentially, USAC Silver Crown or World of Outlaws. Even these series don't run on too many very short (1/2 mile or less) tracks.

Just put them in Darlington.
