irl's fastest race was at Fontana, I remember it was in 2002 too, not exactly sure though. CART never ran a caution free race at Superspeedways, thus explaining why irl has been faster.

Definatly not Fontana 2002. That was only 288.6km/h, which is around 180mph.

Edit. I think I found it. 2003, Fontana ran 207.1 mph.

Why, cos he made a lucky strategy call? Dixon himself said he should have done the same.

Bah should have been an extra RC in the calendar for Briscoe to win :(

Pretty good season though imo.

I've always hated drivers who wins championship just with strategy call

So basically, you hate drivers who are smart? Fantastic logic.

Smart maybe (his strategist is smarter), but not fun. And he was lucky as hell.

Not totally sure on that. Given the times of the pit stops (50/100/149) it was planned from the start. So it wasn't like they lucked into it. And as Dixon said, that is the way they should went too, but they opted for going for flat out speed.

As Jackie Stewart once said, the best way to win a race is at the slowest possible speed. You can't criticise a driver for winning, but not doing it in a fun way. There job is to win, not do it in the way which provides the most fun. To "hate" a driver for that is just plain stupidity in all honesty.

Briscoe only has himself to blame for Motegi. Without that he would have been champion with ease.

If I were the rulemakers I'd be worried about the idea that the guys who were running flat out got beat by a guy saving fuel.
We all know how annoying the early part of Champcar races were when everyone was just lifting off early and saving fuel.
We had to pray for a random yellow to appear to scupper the fuel strategy and make them actually race on track again.

I'd try to do something about it, tbh. But not Mandatory pit windows, oh no.
