Oriol's got to be tickling the top 10 in points by now.

Which is amazing considering the piece of crap in the back of his car before Indy.

A great race, despite the drama of the finish I preferred that race to Texas, for me that's what oval racing is all about.

Nice to see RHR win here again too, he has a special talent for this track it seems!

sh*t I missed this race, I've only seen the last lap right now....today I was on a course and in the middle of an exam so I couldn't even get to watch the race on my cell phone. Looks like I missed a great Milwaukee race... :(

Congratulations RHR!

The races on ABC are just about intolerable & it seems to be getting worse.

Directing is nearly always poor & the Reid/Goodyear commentary is consistently just about the worst, most ill informed, boring & uninformative commentary I've ever had to sit through.

Please tell me were back on NBC next week?

We are :)

Has anyone got a hi-res photo of the Hinchforhomepage spray paint on the safer barrier? Would make an awesome background.

Curt Cavin ‏@curtcavin
#IndyCar to explain a timing glitch on @scottdixon9 penalty lap. Unsure what that means. @BeauxBarfield will explain.

Curt Cavin ‏@curtcavin
#IndyCar said it was wrong to penalize @scottdixon9 for jumping an aborted restart.

Curt Cavin ‏@curtcavin
No recourse once penalty served @BeauxBarfield said. Not good.

Woops..

Beaux Barfield has now said that he reviewed the wrong restart & handed Dixon the penalty based off the restart that was waved off (Where Dixon did jump a bunch of guys) thinking it was the one that went green.

Wow. I'm torn between bashing him for making such a stupid mistake and respecting for straight up admitting that he screwed up so badly.

Post subject:  Re: 2012 Milwaukee IndyFest

The mistake was caused by a timing glitch which meant the timing & replay systems in race control were out of sync.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/100444

Quote:
IndyCar race director Beaux Barfield says that a combination of human error and a computer glitch were responsible for Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon mistakenly being issued with a drive-through penalty at Milwaukee.

Dixon was penalised for jumping a restart, despite that restart being waved off moments later when leader Helio Castroneves went too early, meaning that the actual restart did not come until the following lap.

According to Barfield, the timing system and replay system in race control had fallen out of synch by 36s, which meant that the first restart on the replay system corresponded almost exactly with the second restart on the timing system.

Barfield said that he then made an error by halting the replay immediately after Dixon's apparent indiscretion rather than letting it run for an extra few seconds, meaning that he failed to pick up on the fact that the timing was out and that he was watching the wrong restart.

"I take responsibility for it being the wrong call, and certainly have my issues with it moving forward, about how we prevent such things happening in the future," Barfield said. "It was a technical issue, certainly a little bit of human error, but painful nonetheless."

Barfield said that he had already spoken with Dixon, team owner Chip Ganassi, and team manager Mike Hull, but that there was nothing that could be done to redress the mistake.

"Once a penalty is served, I can't jump back in there and undo it," he said. "They were told exactly what happened, the Ganassi team, Chip himself, Mike Hull, Scott Dixon, were very gracious. They appreciated my candour; explaining to them truthfully what happened."

Dixon had climbed from his starting position of 21st to third when he was issued with the penalty. He eventually finished the race in 11th place.

Post subject:  Re: 2012 Milwaukee IndyFest

Oh well, least he's honest, he predecessor would've blamed Ganassi, the track, the driver, the fans, anyone really.

And the corrupt old management would've backed him up and probably never gone there again.

It's done, lets move on to the next race in this long chain and get on with out lives :)

Post subject:  Re: 2012 Milwaukee IndyFest

Considering the calls that have gone Ganassi's way in recent years that have aided them in winning titles, I've no sympathy here. A case of what comes around goes around. Mistakes happen, you just have to accept it and move on. Shame for Dixon though.

It's another benefit for having Barfield as a race director instead of TGBB: Barfield tries to be as fair as he could while TGBB simply says "whatever I say goes."
