By that logic shouldn't a road course expert be just flat out awesome on an oval if that person has an awesome car for an oval race?

Funny that Will Power lost his title last year because he sucked at oval racing while driving the best car.

I was going to say that yeah, lol. Penske is by far the best prepared team on the grid, and Power threw it all away in one of those "easy" races.

Just like Arie Luyendijk before him. Some drivers style is better suited to ovals, and of course that goes for Europeans too.

Or that Oval racing is more about horsepower and car setup and relies less on driver talent.

I'm not saying it is easy just holding your foot on the throttle and holding the inside line isn't quite as complex as a 20 turn road course etc.

It might be that way for oval qualifying, but oval racing is completely different.

Holding the white line you mean? :p

Oh you guys are too easy to goad lol

Still, this will all change next year with the new car anyway, which will be a giant step into the unknown for everyone on ovals AND road courses, so I imagine that'll shake up the "is good on road courses, sucks on ovals" (or vice versa) preconceptions a bit...

That's only applicable to the 1.5-mile ovals. All the others, Indy included, require plenty of skill in race situations. Quit trolling.

Baguette went to the Dallara factory today, maybe we'll see him back soon? :)

didn't know that

at least it's better than nothing I guess

funny, if a caution had happened at the right time during the 500, his career would probably have been saved

See, if the 500 was NASCAR sanctioned, they would have thrown an extended caution just before Baguette overtook Danica, just so she could make it on fuel :p

So what does everyone think about the possibility of droping The Mile in favor of Road America?

Personaly...and I hate to say it. I agree with Danica Patrick about the loosing oval races. Only beause I want the calender to be 50/50 on oval and street / road courses. But I would honestly drop The Mile if they can not bring the crowd in for Road America. Elkhart Lake is just such a fantastic course. :flag:

IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard told SPEED.com that he is considering a possible return of IndyCar racing to the Road America road course for 2012 – although such a welcome development could come at the cost of another cherished venue. After last week's IZOD IndyCar Series race at the Milwaukee Mile drew a disappointing crowd, estimated at the most 15,000, Bernard admitted that while the series would like to return there next year, he put the chances of doing so at only 50-50.

Meanwhile Bernard said he went to see Road America track president George Bruggenthies last Friday. “It was a great track, I liked it, and it will get strong consideration next year,” he told SPEED.

The Sun-Sentinel reports race promoters are trying to bring the Indycar Series to Fort Lauderdale by 2013, after South Florida's tentatively brief hiatus from the race circuit. The Sun-Sentinel reports race promoters are trying to bring the Indycar Series to Fort Lauderdale by 2013, after South Florida's tentatively brief hiatus from the race circuit. As of now, the race promoters are planning a three-day event featuring around 120 drivers on a 2-mile course, with the hopes of national television broadcasting.

"When you look at the backdrop of the beach and the Intracoastal Waterway and the marina, it would be one of the more exciting events that I've seen in my 25 years in IndyCar," Dillon told the Sentinel. "We truly believe that it could rival some of the top races in the world."

BHA w/Dan Wheldon were named official testers of the 2012 chassis.

Manufacturers will be able to get their chassis in mid-August and teams will recieve their first car in december and the second in january.
