Was a pretty boring race overall although did have some intresting moments.

At least the series know there's a problem & are looking at ways to improve the racing.

They can start by eliminating all short tracks from the schedule.

They are made for sprint car/stock car racing, NOT IndyCar racing.

i don't think adding 5 hp on a push-to-pass button will do much of anything

They mentioned ADDING more downforce.

Look in the IRL news thread for my INSTANT RAGE style reaction to this great idea...

They should just dump the high downforce idea and maybe add a little more power. But they won't.

I don't watch IRL at all but if there is an oval that is flat out for the whole track like Indy then there is lots of passing but as soon as you get an oval where you either have to downchange or brake the turbulence takes effect, making it near impossible to pass.

Passing is hard what ever category of motorsport it is.

1 chassis, 1 engine (freeze engine and chassis development)
1 tyre brand
Half the current amount of downforce
50/50 50% streets/roads 50% ovals (no tracks > 1.0mi)

make it so drivers have an awesome series to strive for. when a driver cant get into F1, make it so he wants to be in the series instead of retiring to GT or Touring Cars

but tony george is an asswhole so we can only dream.

One of the reasons why the racing is so crap now is because development has basically been frozen for about 2 years, the engines all produce the same amount of power, they all have the same tyres and the cars all go the same speed (on the superspeedways) which makes it impossible to overtake, everybody knows every little trick to do on the cars to get the maximum from them so there's no disparity.

Halfing the amount of downforce would only serve to make the situation worse.

The series needs disparity, engines that have different torque bands, different chassis etc. then you'll get back to the good old days of cars actually overtaking, it wouldn't matter if you stuck the present cars on Daytona or Road America, the racing wouldn't be any different because everybody is doing exactly the same speed all of the time.

Now if you said give them steel brakes and go back to manual shifting you'd be going somewhere in the right direction.

Now why don't F1 drivers do that??

I have no idea but do IRL cars have a bigger turbulence problem than F1 cars?

So I didn't miss much, why is it so difficult to improve the racing? Just undo all the changes to the cars up until the point when they still had close races on ovals, wasn't that long ago (maybe 2 or 3 years)

There does need to be more elements that are driver dependant; i.e. the speed of the car depends on the driver's ability to drive it well, rather than the speed depending on the aerodynamics/engine etc.

The sheer fact you have FWD vs RWD in the BTCC makes it close, even without weight penalties and the like.

What? I thought I told you to not act like an expert if you don't know what you're talking about.

Was a pretty dull race but at least they're looking into ways to improve the show. Is there any way that they could create a bigger draft when following another car? Champ Cars used to get a huge tow at places like Michigan and Fontana but it's barely noticeable in IRL.

Oh well. Just waiting for the obligatory OMG NO ONE WAS AT THE TRACK!! LOL LOOK AT THE TV RATINGS!!!111
