I literally put that on at they were on their way out of the lezmos, groggily half asleep I saw a car flipping high and landing hard on its roll hoop, I take it he ended up OK in the end?

Wonder why they threw a red flag so quickly, instead of a SC? Flips are so commonplace in feeder series that I consider them merely "vertical spins". Having seen so many, I'm almost bored of them :p
Stroll's in 2015 wasn't red flagged, even though the car went almost over the barrier. And it wasn't the only flip in that race.

Maybe it's just because some race directors have no experience of seeing flips, so they shit their pants when that happens. :innocent:

Or they knew that they would need to end the race behind SC, and we all know how people reacted after F1 in the same situation :D

Once again people forgetting the rollhoop exists and crediting all to the halo

That accident would've have been any different without the Halo, only slightly easier for Mansell to get out without it afterwards

The Halo is an important safety device don't get me wrong, but it just gets all the credit in accidents it has nothing to do with
Sort of like saying "The rear impact attenuator did its job there!" during a front impact

Def agree with you, like you see videos of F1 crashes from the past 4-5 years essentially claiming x would be dead if it wasn't for the Halo, and if we are going off that, we'd have lost 5-6 F1 drivers in that time which is just BS.

Nowadays even a slightest scratch in the Halo leads people to say that it "saved driver X from a certain death". That's why I always use Brundle's head movement as a counter-argument: drivers have escaped without injuries from much worse accidents.

Obviously Grosjean's crash is different, and I'm quite sure he wouldn't have survived without the halo. Although he was lucky as well, as part of the steel barrier could have easily entered the cockpit through the gaps in the Halo.

I think Brundle was less 'could have been killed' and more 'should have been killed'.

The 2023 calendar does wonders for keeping participation costs low.

Hitech haven't officially announced Luke Browning yet but he did the entire pre-season test with them, so it'd be weird if they didn't choose him. That's the lineup complete.

Mini takes pole. Half a second between him and 17th.

Not massively sure why Montoya was 2nd for most of the session but didn't do a final flying lap so ended up 15th

Coverage started for sprint race. This ought to be good. 30 young hungry drivers, 19 rookies, everyone's bit rusty after the winter...expecting an eventful race.
