Nice analysis except for two points:
Quote:
What might have happened is: the wing is bowed at speed, as the car crests the hill the wing is unloaded slightly. Then as the car starts to move down hill, that load would reverse, the wing which was already vibrating is sent into rocking motion.

The wing is bringing the car down, when the car is "jumping" the crest it becomes weightless, therefore pulling up on the wing and increasing the load rather than unloading it.

Quote:
This movement resonates in a wave from side of the wing to the other, is increasing frequency and amplitude until the wing actually hits the ground.

Amplitude does increase, but during resonance the frequency should not change and is the natural frequency of the object.
However, since that natural resonance frequency also depends on the load applied to the object, it might be possible it changes with car speed (more drag/downforce load makes the wing stiffer as the speed increases, therefore increasing the natural resonance frequency).

In any case, I don't think that the crest has anything to do with it. The fact that the oscillations kept increasing means they were fed by external loads, more likely aerodynamic forces on the wing. It's probably a case of aerodynamic flutter where the mechanical and aerodynamic properties of the wing interact to bring it into resonance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroelasticity#Flutter

I remember that a Sauber broke its rear wing during practice or qualy at Brazil 1999, but this time the resonance was due to the bumps on the start/finish straight. There was a video of that, three hard consecutive bumps and the wing broke, causing the driver (Salo I think) to lose control and crash upon braking for turn 1.

The rumour has it that Williams has sealed the deal for 30 M€ sponsorship from Qatar National Bank. The other rumour says that 15 million from this would go to hire Räikkönen and the announcement would be given at Abu Dhabi. 8) 8)

Autosport reports that Kubica's progress hasn't been ideal - now looking at Grosjean starting the season as a near-certainty. Hoping he can return mid-2012.

How much money would Fernandez get for giving up the Lotus name? Surely, even though he doesnt really need it anymore, wouldnt do it without gaining from it.

Is Räikkönen really worth 15 million? How does that compare to the salaries of other drivers?

If next year's Williams is a piece of shit (which there's a fair chance it will be), I can see Räikkönen losing motivation very quickly regardless of his salary

Well it's win-win for Williams:

- They get $15m from QNB
- They get Kimi Raikkonen: massive publicity, merchandise etc
- Big name signing like Kimi will boost their share prices

- And they won't be paying Rubens' salary either.

You'd also like to think that it cannot get any worse for Williams. I mean, 9th place with just 5 points. That is truly awful. Next year with the Renault engine and a new design team, you'd think they'll be aiming for 6th place like last season.

The deal with QNB will also only go through on the pretense that Kimi signs. No Kimi, no QNB.

The QNB deal plus having the Kimi brand onboard will be positive for the share value. Meaning more money.
