Honda's toast. They're going to cash in their chips and go sportscar racing in IMSA with Penske. I think the DPi (P2) regs IMSA have adopted are the way forward for the manufacturers who don't want to spend the insane amounts of money on WEC or F1. They can still develop their engines and have manufacturer recognized bodywork for a fraction of the cost of a WEC/F1 program and still have a good amount of exposure, in one of their biggest markets.

Haven't read much on that issue, but that Honda DPi program will be run by HPD (´mericuh) or the japs?

HPD would be my guess. Not that the home office doesn't send checks to HPD...

From that Honda article:

Quote:
While extending its long-time deal with Ferrari is the most obvious option, it is understood that might not be so straightforward, in part because McLaren has emerged as a surprise contender for a second customer supply deal alongside Haas.

McLaren had been widely tipped to secure Mercedes engines if its split with Honda went ahead, but there is now understood to be a chance of an alliance with Ferrari

Lol, quiet unthinkable. Reminds me of the good old days with Grand Prix Manager 2. Even Ferrari could get Mercedes engines and what not. hahah F1 is becoming hilarious.

I think, at least for now, we should let go of the idea that McLaren is a top team.
Them getting Ferrari engines is just as normal as force India switching to Ferrari

I've always thought that WEC and Formula 1 should have the same engine formula, that can allow manufacturers to develop engines that can be used in both series, without many modifications.

This is what the FIA tried to do to 'fix' Group C, by banning (mostly Porsche) turbo engines and essentially pasting F1 engine regs onto the category. It basically killed Group C because many privateers didn't have the budget for contemporary F1 engines.

Aaah good old N64 F1 games.

In other news, everyone attended the London F1 event, except Lewis of course.

This is literally 90% of tweets about the event :slaphead:

Willing to bet that it's a team decision instead of the driver, Lewis does love his fans to be fair to him
Oh well, I guess we'll never know.

Apparently he had a holiday booked. In fairness, this does seem to have been thrown together at fairly short notice.

Still, no-one else missed it - doesn't give the best impression :o

Yeah I saw a picture with literally all the drivers perfectly lined up, each with his own teammate next to him. Except poor Bottas. That didn't look good.

The only acceptable reason for not showing up is either sickness or a funeral. Sure the drivers have a tight schedule and they deserve a holiday, but no-one else missed it, as stated above. It would be hypocrite if he finishes on the podium this weekend and says how much he loves his (British) fans.

In other news: Kvyat is set to stay at Toro Rosso for next year and Nico Rosberg lost his driver's championship trophy, but got it back after five days.

They're just glad they can make that extra mile.

Don't worry, I know where the door is.

Well, depending on track layout and elevation they could theoretically cruise a mile on neutral before parking it.

so you've never missed work for anything other than sickness or funeral? even days you weren't originally scheduled to work and already made plans for?

besides, if mercedes felt that the event was vital enough they would have made sure lewis was there

This wouldn't have been a typical workday for Lewis, I don't think I have to explain how special this day was (or should have been) for the local star prior to his home Grand Prix. So in this case I think it was weak off him to stay absent, even if he had a scheduled holiday.

Was it an official FIA sanctioned event that was compulsory? If it was fair enough, questions to be asked, if not what is everybody going on about?. If it was this special then it would have been compulsory. Storm in a tea cup.

Just saw a couple of tweets of the burnouts Ricciardo and Bottas did...yeah if you need any further proof of why these current engines suck just and do nothing for the spectacle listen to the difference of the two. The Red Bull sounded like a rip your face off full on race car and the Merc just sounded like a muffled fart in the wind....yes this old argument again lol.

is a global sports star and has public appearances as a major and necessary part of his job, this isn't exactly a valid comparison.

I think there might be some truth in this, though. It has been demonstrated quite well over the last few years that Mercedes only have limited control over the behaviour and choices of their drivers.

If it was any other country I'd be perfectly fine with it but with Hamilton being a Brit missing an event prior to the British Grand Prix hosted in the British capital is quite a disrespect towards the British fans IMHO.
