I've seen it suggested that something that has put additional manufacturer's off entering is that to keep cost's down the engine's are heavily subsidized & that the manufacturer's make a significant loss on every one they sell as a result of that subsidy.

I also saw it mentioned that as a result of that Honda/Chevy only manufacturer what they know they can sell which is why there isn't the pool of spare engine's for potential Indy one off's to pick from that there used to be. And it doesn't help that the bigger full time teams tend to be given priority when it comes to what spares are available.

And with the constant evolution of safety as well as aero & other little tweaks been done to the cars each year I don't believe teams are allowed to run year+ old spec cars anymore which is something many Indy one off's used to do in the past.

They need to look at some of that & try & make things easier because as it is the 1st day of qualifying is utterly meaningless, Can't even really call it bump day anymore & i'm not sure pole day really exists now either.

Cosworth has had a engine design ready for several years, just waiting for a backer (OEM) to fund the project.

-

full time car count could be up 2 or 3 cars next year depending on sponsorship. Harding being the most likely.

A third supplier won't make it so there's more cars. It would just mean the current two manufactures will just build less engines to save money.

Also it's hardly the Month of May any more, merely the 2 weeks of May (with not much running on the Tues-Thurs of the second week to boot)

Considering they are running spec chassis these days and everyone wants to save money they could probably halve that too, thurs/fri week one for Qualy practice and again the next week for race practice

But such talk is blasphemy no doubt ;)

Shank would of been in the series when the DW12 came about. They bought a chassis but could not get an engine deal.

If a viable 3rd manufacturer existed (fuck you Lotus) Shank would of already have been a full time team.

I wonder if Alonso feels uncomfortable about starting in the middle. Probably starting either inside or even outside might feel a tiny bit safer or at least he'd be more used to it.

A statistic about all 1st corner crashes devided by inside, middle and outside starting positions would be interesting. I'd imagine inside spots being the safest.

It'd be a bigger concern if the field actually crossed the line in a tight 11 rows of 3 like they did 50 years ago, but I would imagine the start will be a bit strung out like it has been recently, so Alonso should have room to breathe going into turn one.

Nevertheless, I'd imagine the Andrettis are giving Alonso more than a few pointers on starting at Indianapolis - particularly what he should do from his position in the middle of row 2. He'll be fine.

As for that statistic, I'll look it up. It may take some bit of work because some of these numbers may be incomplete.

Most surprising thing is that Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti, or any athlete, would put that shit in their bodies.

They must've been drunk, or high or something.

YouTube stream is broken, IndyCar trying to fix it. Facebook is working fine currently though. Track was pretty busy before the yellow.

Small piece of trivia; once Alonso has completed another 40 laps around the track he will have done more running in the DW12 than the 2017 McLaren.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Wait... you've had a not-choppy stream!? :8:

Youtube streams have rarely issues, and even when they do it is a track side issue like apparently now.

How strange - I have had choppy YT streams for every session so far, and have never seen issues with YouTube streams other than this :o
