I thought they were kinda cool. Especially on that 95 Mclaren.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Merc was a box of bolts and the Williams hit the ground running and under the new leadership of Paddy Lowe Massa ended up winning the championship and neither Lewis nor Botas won a race.

I'm sure there's some parallel universe where this will happen, if not in ours.

We can laugh about this, but who saw Brawn and Red Bull coming in 2009? Or Benetton in 1994?

Sort of related - I got bored last week and found the 2009 testing thread. Did anyone here who said they were going to put money on Brawn actually do so?

It's one of my life's big regrets that I never did this, I even walked past the local betting shop and saw them with odds of 500-1 even up to the week before Melbourne.
If I'd just put a tenner on that.....

But years and years of underdog teams running around out of regulation or with tiny fuel loads just so they could look good in testing and attract potential sponsors meant I just didn't believe it to be true.
As soon as Button won they were down to 8-1 or something more regular, and I was kicking myself.

Well. Fuck!!

Ugh. I always hated those things (even though the F-duct they housed one year was kinda-cool).

One of the side effects of the new regulations making the racing duller next year, as it is bound to do any time you add a huge amount of aerodynamics back into motorsport, was that at least the cars were going to look good as they bored us to tears.
Now, as ever, F1 finds a way to ruin that for us too.

It's always the way in F1, even in 2012, which imo is one of the best seasons ever, every time I look back to it, it's blighted by those fucking hideous stepped noses. Now a few years have passed I can't even believe they were allowed to happen.
One step forward....two steps back.

That wasn't a shark fin, rather it was bodywork to hold the mid-wing. Once rules around those mid-wings were clarified early in 1995 those appendages disappeared.

That car always struck me as decidedly angular. It was such a shit car too and I don't know how Mika managed two 2nd place finishes with it.

This Massa thing really is a joke - there's so many drivers in Formula E who'd do a much better job than him

I kind of agree. However, Massa knows the team and is vastly experienced - Bottas has spoken before to say how much more he learned once partnered with Massa. It's a bit of a farce but I can understand Williams' thinking.

once I read that McLaren made that wing on the airbox as a loophole to allow more air into the engine, as in the beggining of the season airbox size was limited to limit engine power

- Yes you're right. Some teams exploited the hole in the air box for aero gain. McLaren weren't the only team to do so. Then the teams complained about the power reduction from the new 3 liter engines meant the air box holes weren't necessary. FIA agreed and the holes, along with the midwings disappeared.

I'm glad Felipe Massa is back to F1 not because I like him or think he's qualified to be there but because he'll avoid the fiasco of not having a brazilian in F1 grid, something that doesn't happen since 1970.

At least we'll use him to honor the Country remaining in F1 grid until the end of 2017 when we can have some other brazilian candidates trying some places in F1 for 2018.

Personally I would feel very bad of not watching a brazilian in F1 because since I was born in 1986, I have never seen that. It's shocking for our generation.

Good. Use that space for a big car number!

People moan about the shark fins, they were ok. It's the ugly noses that need to go.

Something ends, something begins. In 1991 Italy had 13 drivers on the grid. AFAIR since 2011 they have had none. But I understand your point of view - since Kubica's accident and his retire, I've also lost large part of my interest in F1. I mean I still watch it, but I just don't care.

I had to check this on Wikipedia but it's actually true.
But we also had 18 teams back then with a total of 34 cars (as Fondmetal and Coloni only fielded 1 car)

and from 1992 to 2003 italian drivers failed to win. 3 more years and Brazil reaches this drought

seeing statsf1 Italy is about to equal the record as they're about to stay 11 years with no wins

Ron Dennis is being linked to a Manor buyout by some media.

Doubt it's true but then again, its Ron Dennis so he's probably plotting revenge from the moment the boot hit his ass.
