Yeah, yeah, it's stil Europe, and geographical proximity, etc... but in all honesty, people give as little thought about Luxembourg than they do Azerbaijan, so there be it.

yeah, but that was again because Germany had two races, Hockenheim and Nürburgring. There has always been a reason to name it different. The Swiss Grand prix at Dijon is the same, as there was also a French Grand Prix at Le Castellet.

So I think it is the first time we have a 'European Grand Prix' with only one race in that country.

I find it a bit strange, I can't understand why Azerbaidjan wouldn't want it to be called the 'Azerbeidjan Grand prix'.

Wasn't Luxembourg at the Nurburgring because there wasn't a suitable track in Luxembourg? Just like the Swiss GP being at Dijon?

Azerbaijan is a member of the Council of Europe, basically the people we have to negotiate with if we vote to leave, so although it's not part of the Europe Union, it's still associated with Europe, maybe they thought that was a tenuous enough of a link to justify the name, I mean Russia is a member of the Council too, so they're not fussy who they let in, either that or nobody could pronounce Azerbaydjan, if they wanted the name to promote the City, call it the Baku GP, since not many people have problems pronouncing that.

Either that or it was some reputation type thing and they didn't want people to mistake it for Afghanistan (which a lot of people did when the race was first announced).

Have the old cobble stones around the old fort wall been lost forever? Would be such a shame to loose a part of history for an F1 race that lasts probably 2-3 years, then onto the next country with the largest amount of cash.

nope, just read they put something in between to protect the original path. After the race they'll remove the tarmac

and the name European GP was chosen for 2 reasons: so Bernie could play a trick with the fans saying that are still more races in Europe than abroad and because Azerbaijan is a name hard to spell and pronounce

This is obviously a very premature thought since it's early days but does anyone else think it's only a matter of time before we have a Vettel vs. Webber type situation at RBR again? The team, right from Marko to Horner are gushing about Verstappen and understandably so. Given that and Verstappen's sense of entitlement, I can't help but wonder that it's only a matter of time, especially if he starts to outperform RIC every now and then...

So William apparently found some sort of loophole.

Ricciardo seems more like Kimi than Webber.

Williams carries such a top speed that they can afford to add some drag.

So less than 48 hours after max winning a Grand Prix and the city of zandvoort is already looking into bringing F1 back there.

Not gonna happen as long as bernie's in charge.

There is a new owner (a member of the Dutch Royal family) of the circuit, so not sure what his plans are.

Although I would love a Dutch GP. The Circuit and the city itself are quite a shit hole (at the moment to host it). The Circuit needs a shitload of investments to get it to current F1 standards. And Zandvoort itself is the worst place ever to host big events. The public transport and infrastructure to the city are terrible.
