They did a test at Vegas with the 2016 package and the response was that it's not that different from the standard 2015 package, although that could be down to the newer tarmac.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Because the pan is what produces the ground effects (along with the skirts). We'll see when we get to the cookie cutters proper, but maybe I just have low expectations based on NASCAR's decisions in the past.

Think of it like an F1 winglet on the front wing, cut one of them off and it won't make a major difference, cut them all off and it will, what NASCAR has done is basically cut half of one off the top plane.

I know Atlanta is apples to oranges for other 1.5ers, but drivers aren't on a rail, that's for sure.

Biffle about wrecked on his 1st lap entering T1 (super loose on entry), Hamlin nearly spun off of 2, had to lock it down to not wreck. I saw an onboard with Harvick (I think race trim and somewhat old tires) drop around 40mph from corner entry to mid-corner speed.

Besides the aero, the tyres can make quite a difference. Atlanta usually causes a lot of wear anyway, but what about the other 1.5 mile tracks? Are Goodyear going to bring tyres that fall off? I hadn't heard much about the tyres for this year.

Busch entered turn 1 on the bottom and just about kept it off the wall by the exit of 2.

Kurt. I was amazed he didn't lose it completely.

Lots of other drivers are also clearly having to keep the back end in line on their qualy runs.

Well, that's the plan, allegedly. We'll see if Goodyear really follows through or not...

Yeah, with less downforce it drops the cornering speeds, which will ease the insane burden these cars have been placing on the tires. So, theoretically that affords them the chance to run softer tires.

I'm really interested to see how these cars race at Fontana. The place was one of the very few places the old rules package actually put on a good show.

I'm at the track now, turn 4 looks rather treacherous now, even with the trucks. I've seen guys bobble a bit, nearly get the wall, this might be a trouble spot this weekend.

Good. I hope they turn a few around and put em in the wall. It's about time racing comes back and not just glued to the track foot to the floor junk.

I sense some drivers used up their tires a little too quickly. Atlanta is abrasive as hell, so some teams probably could have benefited from sandbagging a bit during their run and hoped they could have made it when the sun was down and the track was cooling down.

This is going to be a fun race, I sense. Drivers are going to have problems once the tires really wear down.
