You can make all the aero changes you want...someones still gonna figure it out and be dominant. You'll never get restrictor plate style equalizing no matter what you do unless everyone is driving the exact same equipment.

Yeah I'm disappointed with what I'm hearing overall.. reduced spoiler, good.. extended splitter, why? Then the fact that they're saying it's just for Kentucky, and possibly one Chase race? That makes 0 sense to me also.

I'll wait till official info is out, because I'm getting a lot of mixed info.. just found this:

Quote:
NASCAR will reduce downforce on cars by cutting the rear spoiler and making other changes. The spoiler has been reduced to 3.5 inches. There will be a 25-inch wider splitter extension. The splitter will have 1 3/4 inch less overhang. The tires will have more grip.

Smaller spoiler is good. Less downforce is good. A grippy tyre that drops off over longer runs would be good. I'm not sure about the splitter though? Sounds like it's wider but not as high/low? Not sure if that's a good thing or not. I was hoping they'd do away with it completely, but it's a start.

It's a little concerning that they're almost pinning all their opinions of this on a single race.

You're clearly missing the point/goal of a low-downforce package.

Radiator pan width from 38 to 25 inches. Splitter has 1.75 inches less overhang.

Kentucky races are generally terrible.

If a few inches here and there can make a race there good, it will be a bloody miracle.

I don't know why they don't just get rid of the splitter and replace it with a valance again. Why is it so important to have a splitter? The cars managed fine for decades without them. They're finicky to setup, they dig into the infield dirt like nobody's business and are very difficult to repair.

Yeah I have no idea why they're so married to the splitter at this point. Dunno what it was supposed to accomplish in the first place but it's clearly been a failure in every observable way.

Yeah, I can't understand the logic behind the splitter. For a Sport that loves to be entertaining, you would have thought they'd keep the cars simple.

well NASCAR/IMSA does have that deal with DTM with plans of a American DTM series that hasn't been really talked about in a year or so. :slaphead:

The only reason may be that removing it right now would change way to much for a single race mid-season, or they think that will make the cars even tighter witch I can't really believe.

Apparently Carl Long has a broken shoulder which he suffered in that practice crash at Dover.

While the official test was canned, Ryan Preece tested a modified at the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park road course last week.
