there was also Jacques, Sr. and Gilles (although Jacques didn't qualified), Jody and Ian Scheckter, Wilson, Jr. and Emerson Fittipaldi, Hermanos Rodríguez

funny that world champions and highly famous drivers had their brothers on F1

Max Verstappen for Red Bull. Seems like a sensible choice. Mercedes seems tot go for high profile drivers instead of young talent so this seems like a good step in his career.

Whereas Red Bull has a revolving door junior program which seemingly takes on countless amounts of talent, and then spits them out the other side leaving the driver nowhere to go and we rarely hear or see them again.

Well. I hope Max will be the exception that does make it. I do, however, hope they arent dumb enough to really put him in the STR next season already. Much too young.

A theory posted on Atlas which seems plausible;

Jenson retires (or goes to Williams, replacing Massa)
Alonso goes to McLaren
Vettel goes to Ferrari
Kvyat goes to Red Bull
Max comes in with STR alongside Sainz who boots JEV out.

----------------------------------

Mercedes were offering Max a top-line GP2 drive next season. Which makes you wonder what Red Bull must have offered for Max to jump into that particular piranha tank.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

How is Max going to RB a bad thing? He's a once in a generation talent. He'll go the right path and get to F1 ready to win right off the bat. With Merc and GP2, he would have suffered from a lack of experience in the car and we'd write him off if he isn't winning from jump, which he wouldn't be. Plus with Merc, when there's a logjam, he'd end up in DTM and who knows when we'd ever see him in anything else.

I don't disagree but most of those who join the Red Bull program are labelled with this expectation. Will Max be a Vettel or Ricciardo (or arguably Kvyat)? Or will he be a Liuzzi, Klien, Bernoldi, Da Costa, Alguesuari, Aleshin, Chandok, Dillmann, Hartley, Speed, Visser, Wickens, Ammermueller, Jani, Friesacher, Fleming, Zaugg, Edwards, Buemi... and this is the short version of the list as there's actually many more.

Bernoldi, Aleshin, Chandok, Hartley, Speed, Wickens, Jani, Friesacher red bull juniors? Especially the first three are a bit 8O They surely fired their talent scout somewhere along the line. Plus, did they have anything concrete except money to throw at the drivers?

I think a lot of people will agree that for anyone with 1 year of car racing under his belt, F1 is way too early. So, I hope they learn from Jos' career, but you never know. In any case, a lot of the names mentioned had pretty good, or still have, careers elsewhere in motor racing. Maybe not formula 1, but having a job in motor racing is not bad.

I wonder if it would be a problem that kids his age aren't always fully grown yet.

After the season he's having, Ricciardo should be getting quite a pay rise.

lol, Raikkonen gets so much to put it in the wall every other Sunday?
under the old points system, he would have scored his first point of the year in Hungary, for sixth...
