From the earlier laps they can obviously pass whenever, it's not like the 500 in February. I'd probably take a few laps and ride single file to catch my breath and go back at it.

why in the fuck would you stand that close to a catch fence at a track where cars can fly into said catch fence

Even Fontana security knows better than to stand blatantly next to the fence. All I saw down there in the "danger area" are golf carts passing by once in a while.
