A pretty big blow for Lotus - technical director James Allison is set to leave the team.

I expect to see Allison pop up at another team or be announced at another team very soon. I suspect his sudden departure from Lotus was to avoid being put on gardening leave by the team.

McLaren are the only team to have confirmed that Allison isn't joining them.

Hey! I drove a Lada for about a year. Most reliable car I've driven in a constant basis.

Really fun to drive too. Slow speed-understeer on entry, oversteer on exit.

What model of Lada you drove?

Teams will get an extra set of tyres for use only in the 1st 30mins of FP1 next year:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/107292

Maybe alone on this but I don't see the problem with teams not doing much running during FP1. Its only a practice session so teams should be allowed to run whatever program they wish to even if that program means not much running.

I'd rather they look at giving drivers 6 sets of qualifying tyres (2 new sets for each qualifying segment) than trying to get more running in FP1 which has traditionally always seen less action early on.

Also if there so concerned about 3rd drivers getting running, Just bring back 3rd cars for FP1/FP2 as we had in 2004-2006 & allow it to run a different sponsor/livery. If a team doesn't feel it can afford to run a 3rd car then just don't run one.

If your at the track you want to see cars running for the full length of the session, because you paid enough money for it.

But that's a risk you have to take into account when you buy your tickets for FP1.

There shouldn't be risk involved with buying tickets for FP day. It's understandable if cars can't run because of a crash or technical issues, but not so if teams purposely don't run. You pay I watch F1, not a partially empty track.

The tyre limit shouldn't apply to free practice.

Whoever does the most laps in the 3 practice sessions combined gets a bonus point. That will get them out on track more (and obvious more tyres for just those practice sessions)

But not running early on is not a part of any team's program. They just do it because they don't wanna ruin a set of limited tires when the track is too green.

With this extra set, teams can rubber up the track and still have an additional set to test their upgrades and start the work on the setup for the race(nowadays this mostly involve preserve the tires)
