Bottas is probably one of the most hyped drivers ever in F1, imo. I won't be surprised at all if Maldonado trashes him on qualifyings, just as he did to Bruno. I can't be too confident of him bringing it home consistently in the races but I highly doubt Bottas have more raw speed than him.

The car didn't really have that much pace aside from Barcelona and Singapore(in which mechanical problems cost Maldonado a brilliant podium)

If Maldonado keeps it cool as he have done since Silverstone(the accident with Perez where I thought it was the last time he deserved a penalty), I think he will stay in F1 for quite a long time

Wow. What's his target?

Hopefully he can find a new home in a better team than Sauber.

As much as he can get. The more money he brings the better his chances of finding something.

I think KK will end up at FI since DiResta is useless as a driver(does he take money/sponsors to the team?), and they probably will already have quite some money from some eventual paydriver(Alguersuari, Sutil......).

If KK opened that "funding thing" to his international fans, as well, he might as well offer quite some good amount for a seat, regardless of how much he can give as a driver(imho)

If he hadn't crashed in Melbourne = 8 points
If he hadn't messed up the entire weekend in Monaco = ? points
If he hadn't jumped the start, spun and then collided with a Virgin in Spa = ?points
If he hadn't collided with Perez at Silverstone = ? points
If he hadn't collided with Hamilton in Valencia = 12/15 points
If he hadn't crashed in Brazil = probably at least 1 point
If he hadn't had to take a penalty for crashing in Spa at Monza = ? points.

The Williams may have only shown race-winning pace on one occasion, but I think it's safe to say there's probably at least 50 points in that lot through Maldonado crashing. Maldonado could have been 8th in the championship, those points could have allowed Williams to beat Sauber to 6th. I'm not saying drivers shouldn't be allowed to make errors, since you could probably go down the entire field and point out where they lost points through their driving, but if I can reel off 1/3 of the races where he lost points. He scored points in 5 races. Williams showed more promise than that. I know it's hard with on average 6 or 7 of the spots likely to go drivers from Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, Red Bull, and so there's only 3 or 4 spots to fight for between 8 of you, but you've still probably got about a 50% chance of scoring points.

McLaren Generated €28M Profit In '11, With Revenue Increasing By 16%

Quote:
F1 team McLaren "has released its financial numbers for the '11 fiscal year in which it generated a profit before taxes of €28M," according to Sylt & Reid of MOTORSPORT TOTAL. McLaren "was also able to increase its revenue by 16% to €212M." The reason for this increase was "on one hand a bigger share of F1's marketing revenue, and on the other hand a higher payment from title sponsor Vodafone." The telecom company transferred around €57.5M to the England-based team in '11, which is 15% more than the previous year. The team's profit went almost completely (€25M) into the coffers of the McLaren Group, in which Founder Ron Dennis and Bahrain-based holding company Mumtalakat each own 50%. The expenditures of the team also increased by 11.2% to about €184M in '11. In addition, German automotive company Daimler sold the last 16% of its once 40% stake in the company in '11. It sold its last shares for about €37M to the McLaren Group. However, through its sponsorship deal with the team and as the team's engine provider, Daimler "still invested around €47M in the team in '11"

“Frankly, I’m not that interested in what the opinion is of me in Germany or elsewhere,” Alonso said at Ferrari’s end of season event at Valencia at the weekend.

“What I know is that people who see me in the streets hug me and call me gladiator or samurai. What matters to me are the 1200 people in the Ferrari family who gave me a standing ovation at a dinner.”

Indeed, many in the paddock believe Alonso has improved even since his title-winning days at Renault mid last decade, and would have been a more deserving 2012 champion.

“Before,” Alonso agreed, “the people had a more or less good opinion of me, but now I notice a whole different level of respect, which I did not have when I won in 2005 and 2006.

“And then, to be one of the greats of formula one, it’s not enough to win titles, you must also tackle seasons like the one just ended.”

Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport quotes him adding: “I don’t have as many titles as Fangio or Schumacher, but I’m one of the best.

“Senna won three and is considered the best, even though others have more. When I retire, I will have the titles I have and I hope I am considered the best,” he is quoted by the AS sports daily.

Not sure how much the above is due to creative questioning from the interviewer, but me thinks all the brown nosing and gloating from the Ferrari management has really gone to Fernando's head. I really wonder what Felipe must be thinking with Stefano and Luca sucking up to Fernando in every article.

He's a Mercedes driver the same way that Vettel is a Red Bull driver. Unlike all the other Mercedes drivers (Paffet, Green, Jarvis, etc) he managed to escape the Mercedes career killer than is DTM.

I know Richie Stanaway could have had a BMW DTM drive this season, but he turned it down because of how it kills careers for those wanting to get into F1

Don't know where to post this, but I think it's right here. Here are some of Kimi's best quotes of the year  :D

Quote:
Ahead of Kimi Raikkonen’s comeback prior to the start of the 2012 season we ran a feature compiling the Finn’s best quotes. After twenty races – which included that memorable victory in Abu Dhabi – we take a look back at what Raikkonen said in 2012…

“Usually you have a new car here every year, so it’s not a big surprise” – Australia.

“It’s the same – except for the amount of titles he’s won!” – China, on Sebastian Vettel.

“I arrived in China on the Thursday morning, so arriving for a European race on the Thursday morning is no different really” – Spain, when asked about whether travelling to a European round is more favourable.

Q: And what did you tell the Finnish viewers just now?
KR: It’s Mothers’ Day in Finland.
Q: So Happy Mothers’ Day?
KR: Yeah. I had nothing else to say to Finnish viewers.

“Did you see what the f*** just happened?” – Monaco Grand Prix, when Sergio Perez cut in front of Raikkonen at pit entry.

“You only need one bad race and the guy wins so I wouldn’t put money, probably use it for something else” – Europe, when asked who he’d put money on for the title.

“If it’s wet, it’s wet, it’s the same for everyone” – Britain, when asked about how the expected rainfall could affect running.

“I am doing my best!” – British Grand Prix.

“Makes no difference to my weekend if there’s one or a hundred thousand” – on the Finnish fans at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

“I know what I am doing” – Belgian Grand Prix, when informed he is fighting Michael Schumacher.

“So give me the full power then, give me the full power!” – Belgian Grand Prix, when told to push for the last few laps.

“Nothing keeps me awake. I have the ability to sleep well, wherever I am.”

“I’m not the type of a person who is scared of something. If something is going to happen, it’s meant to be that way.”

“But whoever has the most points at the end of the year deserves to win the championship. If that happens it’s a good thing for us, but if it comes with a win or without I don’t care” – Singapore, when asked about the elusive win

“I always said that I’m not desperate for Formula One and when I feel like doing something else I will” – Singapore, when asked about his future plans.

“I spun” – Japanese Grand Prix qualifying.

“I don’t care about the others” – Japanese Grand Prix qualifying.

“Yeah, actually I am, if it’s the same as it is in Europe. I like it, but you know I have no experience yet of the local food” – India, when asked if he is a fan of Indian food.

“The team did not need to tie me up and blackmail me with a photo album, unlike certain other contracts you may have seen me sign recently. That was not necessary on this occasion” – On signing a new deal for 2013.

“Leave me alone, I know what to do” – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, when informed of the gap back to Fernando Alonso.

“Yes Yes Yes Yes I am doing it all the time you don’t have to remind me” – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, when reminded to warm the tyres behind the Safety Car.

Q: Kimi – your first victory since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix. Tell us about your emotions at this time.
Kimi Raikkonen: Not much really.
Q: People want to know how amazing it is to win a Grand Prix. Tell us.
KR: Last time you guys was giving me shit because I didn’t really smile enough.

“I’m happy, but there’s nothing to jump around about” – on his win in Abu Dhabi.

Q: “Kimi, how special is it to be the first driver to win for Lotus since Ayrton Senna in 1987?
KR: “It’s a long time for them, I guess”.

“For sure we’re going to have a good party today and hopefully tomorrow, when we are feeling bad after a long night, we will remember how we feel” – on what he’ll do after his Abu Dhabi win.

“As long as I manage to get myself to the next race I think the team is happy. I try to get home at some point” – Abu Dhabi.

“I’m not so stupid that I cannot remember what I’m doing. It’s a normal thing, they are just trying to help. I know what I’m doing. I will ask for help if I need it. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last time. It’s been many times with other teams also but they are all there to help you and try to put you in the best position” – on Abu Dhabi radio messages.

“I think whoever scores most points will get it and deserves it” – USA, when asked who will win the championship.

“I don’t care if I am second, fourth, or 10th. We are here to try to win, and it really doesn’t give me anything if I am third or fourth. I don’t care if I have to go [to the FIA prizegiving]. But for me it doesn’t really give me anything. I am here to try to win, and if I finish third or fourth it doesn’t matter. If you ask someone after five years in F1 and who was second or third, it would be the same. It makes no difference. It looks maybe better on paper but in reality it doesn’t mean anything” – on his finishing position in the championship.

“Where I went off you can get back on the track by going through the support race pitlane, but you have to go through a gate. I know this as I did the same thing in 2001 and the gate was open that year. Somebody closed it this time. Next year I’ll make sure it’s open again..” – on running wide in Brazil.

Auntie runs/ran a brothel, PDR claimed not to know anything about it but that's like me saying I know nothing about my Aunt's fraud conviction because I hardly ever see her.

PDR isn't a exclusive though, if you look behind most drivers there's always some funny shit going in.

There is also the 'other side to the Di Restas' such as the porn, but there is also the side as in you would find yourself at the bottom of the River Clyde if you get on the wrong side of them.

Again PDR 'know's nothing'

Also, I see Autosport reports that Another Malaysian Billionaire wants to build a track in the country.

For various reasons.

It's Chrysler/Lancia. For Fernando. As a gift from Montezemolo. For coming 2nd again. Bronze with silver trim.

Yeah, he lost many "minor" points which together could put Williams higher on WCC. I really don't think Williams had a shot at Sauber since the Swiss team was already almost with Mercedes' points. Imho, Williams at best could have taken FI and that's it.

But that was not entirely the point. Maldonado improved a lot after Silverstone and you can't really blame him for anything after that(Brazil apart). If Pastor keeps like that for the remainder of his career, I can't see him being ditched from F1 even without PDVSA's money.

Bottas still have to prove his speed and allegeded talent in F1. Right now, I think it will/would be difficult for any driver to step in the other Williams and be quicker than Maldonado as, imho, he's among the fastests drivers in F1.
