It's funny that the one guy who's seriously trying to argue that this era's races are underappreciated is also the resident notafanboyjustpassionate of the driver who has dominated this era. I mean I was always Gordon fan and liked to see him dominating in '98, but I would never disagree with someone saying it stunk up the show.

But the reality is at the start of every weekend for the past 7 years there is close to 80% certainty a Merc will be on pole with a small chance of an upset in them not locking out the front row, followed by a 75% chance of a Merc taking the chequered flag. Think of any other sport you would willingly follow where you know the winner 3/4 times before the event starts, let alone follow for 7 years.

I know this post will be a giant waste of time due to the fact the overriding view here is that Lewis is a sub level Maldanado driver who just happens to be gifted the best car on the grid (funny how the all time greats like Senna, Prost, Schumacher et all end up in the best cars though eh...) with no effort on his part, but I don't give any kind of a shit really, here goes, the right of reply no-one asked for and won't respect

I feel I've earnt my stripes on this one. I've sat through years of Schumacher domination just wishing Kimi or JPM would get it right and beat him and watch a duller race than we get today with Schumacher winning. Never would I think i'd get to the point where I wasn't supporting the underdog, but here we are

And Lewis, well I've been a fan since I went to Donington in the early 2000s and wondered why this kid in a Formula Renault was so good and started following him from then, so I'm not some glory supporter
What was interesting even back then was watching people on Ten-Tenths and similar places tie themselves in knots about how he was benefiting from positive discrimination without having the self awareness to realise they were actually part of the discrimination he faced. That made me take even more notice of him
Then there were the eye-opening moments like that battle with Seb in F3 at the Lauzitzring in the wet or that GP2 race in Turkey where he stormed through the field and then he arrived in F1 overtaking 2 people at the first corner, yeah, this kid was pretty special, I thought

But he's still just a driver to me. I couldn't give a shit what he does outside a race weekend and it puzzles me why the haters do. I don't even follow his social media but sometimes find myself confronted with a post of his posted by someone trying to attack him for some perceived hypocrisy or other and I wonder why I'm supposed to care.
Lewis, and all the drivers tbh, are people who entertain me with their driving talent on a weekend and I don't care what they get up to outside of that be it partying with celebrities, getting as wasted as possible (sorry kimi) or trying to launch a new career as an entrepreneur (Sorry nico)

Saying all this, I'd still rather he was winning titles at the last corner after a title battle that lasted all year.
Driver's best performances come when they're under pressure most of the time and that's the magic that defines a true great.

To those that are sick of domination, I understand. But like anything in F1, just be patient, nothing lasts forever.
Lewis is much closer to the end of his career than the beginning, I give him 3 more years max.
Mercedes, who knows when they'll decide to pull the plug and go fully formula E or something else green.
It won't last forever. The formula 1 you loved can come back again, and when I say the formula 1 you loved, I mean the formula 1 we all bitched about not being exciting enough but in a different way that kids do when they're bored ;)

TL;DR, you might hate Lewis/Mercedes, but they'll retire eventually so F1 isn't over :D
Mate, you could have saved yourself the essay and read what I wrote - it's not about Lewis pissing excellence, it's about being able to recognise domination at a level that's bad for the sport even when it's your driver doing the dominating. And that's not a knock on Lewis or Mercedes, of course they're the best we've seen in some time. The failure is with the FIA to manage the sport in any way that encourages competition or entertainment. Even Toto in a rare honest moment would probably admit he's surprised nothing rules wise has been changed in 7 years to throw even a slight challenge their way.

Why was he going so fast? No need to push on a grid lap.

Wouldn't Max have to start from the pits as they are making changes to the car?

You are allowed to since there is a "change in climatic conditions" given by race control.

They actually fixed it. And I think the racing line, dry line, could appear in 5-10 laps if there is no more rain.
