Yeah I guess so. It did seem ridiculous back then.

I've made plenty of daft predictions in the past but I'm 100% convinced that Red Bull are signing Vettel

Wait until Ocon is a little too quick for Fernando.

Assuming they will keep Max, this would be enormously unfair on Albon. So yes, completely on brand for Helmut 'Fuck you, and you too' Marko.

Get rid of either Kvyat or Gasly, who flopped at Red Bull and put Albon there. It's the Red Bull way.

Maybe Red Bull is gambling on Haas and/or Williams shutting down and they being one of the teams to run 3 cars in 2021?

Why dump Albon over Vettel? Albon doesnt spin in races on his own.
Albon deserves his seat, but yeah if it was last year where Gasly had problems sure i would pick Vettel. But Albon deserves it and could have won last race until Lewis again spun him

Red Bull hiring Vettel? Only if Max receives the big money from Mercedes

Albon proved he's reliable and fast, but not enough to be a menace to Verstappen

at least Albon was spinned by another driver, while Vettel often spuns on his own

It does require a special set of skills though

The article says Kvyat would be sacrificed

To me, as long as Seb's interested and Max is happy - and we'll take him at his word when he said that he is - there should be no reason why they shouldn't sign Seb. Realistically speaking, if you've got a choice between a four-time world champion and a guy in his second season in F1 who hasn't exactly pulled up trees, you go for the four-time champion. It's the same reasoning as Renault signing Alonso - it's a massive marketing coup, and brings in someone with experience and success to his name, who knows the team and has strong relationships with most of the key people there

Yeah, it might not work - Seb might find the world's moved on in Red Bull, and the team might find he's not as good as he used to be. But beyond the whole "you're only as good as your last race" adage, he still won a race last year - perhaps it should've been two. I think we need more evidence before deciding he has suddenly dropped off the cliff this year

Would you maybe say, it requires a very particular set of skills? Skills he has acquired over a very long career and that would make it a nightmare for people like Albon. Are you saying he should just let his ride go and now and that will be the end of it?

  ;)

I'm sure Vettel is still in high regard with the top people of Red Bull, and this counts a lot. All people involved believing Vettel can get back to his best days in the place where he did have his best days doesn't look absurd.

Vettel to Red Bull Racing, Albon to Toro Rosso, Kvyat or Gasly finally says bye bye to Red Bull, but one of them goes to Haas where Grosjean is finally let go?

Seb left RBR in 2014 of 2 reasons (sure new engine rules contributed to that that RBR wasnt winning as often like in past)
First Ricciardo owned him, he was way better than him, and Max will too.
And he had a crap car (but somehow team mate managed to win some races, but he didnt, so it wasnt a crap car)
And he wanted a new challenge so he moved to Ferrari thinking he would do what Schumacher did.. but we know how that worked out (but he still has a last shot this year)
I would stick with Albon.

In other news, Leclerc and Bottas are in a spot of bother for going back to Monaco this week. Leclerc was photographed at a party with his partner and friends. For some reason he has spent a decent chunk of today liking tweets from people criticising him

He's an odd guy

Well, I really would love to see Giovinazzi driving Leclerc's car for at least one GP.

Vettel returning to Red Bull and being trounced by Max would be the final nail in his reputation as a decent driver on his day vs someone who lucked into a dominant car and could never replicate that high water mark.

He'd be better off going straight into retirement, he doesn't need the money.

It cannot end well for Red Bull either. You have 2 guys that would be completely out for themselves and ignoring all team orders.

They'd end up hitting each other way more than Mark and Seb or Max and Danny ever did too....

Just no way it ends well for them

So yeah, I expect it to happen
