Who needs Zandvoort, Montreal, Spa, Sngapore and Baku if we can have Barcelona, Budapest and freakin two rounds of Bahrain?

With that I guess they could with the back to back at Silverstone since there won't be spectators.

Unless they keep being morons so it does switch to Hockenheim.

Same with Austria.

Bahrain gives good races in the last years.

Also: no events are allowed in Belgium until after 31 August, so unless that has changed, not a chance the Belgian GP is happening on the 30th.

Here at Brazil, on the way things are going from bad to worse on Covid-19, it probably won't happen.

I'd take Bahrain any day over Zandvoort racing wise. Things seem to happen there.

Ricciardo was a bit too expensive for Renault I assume, and Mclaren won't pay him as much, but Mclaren seems to have much bigger potential go close the gap to the top3 than Renault.

Didn't Renault show some good pace at this year's winter testing? I would laugh my ass off if they start racking up podium finishes while McLaren fades off slowly. It's VERY unlikely... but so is everything happening right now, and so has been the fate of many midfield teams in the late years.

And yeah, silly seasons aren't nearly as fun when detached from any on-track action. It's actually silly now.

Not really. Did you see the close up photos of the tub where the nose cone joins? They used last years tub (to save money?) So with the rules freeze that would be 3 years with the same pretty crappy base.

I think that might have been a factor in Ricciardo's move. He did after all have a pre season to judge where he thought they would be for at least the next year.....but McLaren switching to Merc and not being allowed to develop a new car to suit the engine is also a major gamble that quite frankly could be a disaster.

Mark Priestley video discussing this years Renault. @6:13 in. It is like a punch in the face once you can actually see it.

Another thing I was thinking. 2020 might be the least expected season ever.

First we had the 2021-now-2022 rules announced and this made the teams to had their sights to the future, balancing their efforts between 3 seasons. Then when we are about to have the 2020 season, the hell breaks out. And before we get all the shit ready for 2020, we have the silly season beginning before the first race. Even the 2021 rules were pushed laterwards and 2021 season became what 2020 season was supposed to be.

We might even have a proper season this year, but it will always feel like it wasn't meant to be.

^Good point.

If and when it happens, it will be very strange. I think we will get at least a handful of races in this year. Not sure about non-European races though.

Only races I feel are realistic will be European races in the summer. Autumn is way too far off, and the pandemic might pick up again due to people naturally being closer indoors (as every season), the virus thriving better in cold climate (not proven but suspected), and everyone becoming more lax on safety measures after a hiatus during summer.

Belgian government has decided today to allow the Belgian GP to take place without spectators. I'm sure FOM will come up with something stupid like putting fans on webcams in the stands like they do with the cgi advertisements to cover the lack of fans at the track

We better brace ourselves indeed.

In the US, Fox has announced they will use fake crowd images and noises in their NFL transmissions.

NASCAR are chuckling that now they can be pretty open about their Dale Jr Cheering machine they've had for about 15 years... :whistling:

There was a team in 2009 that had to use a Merc engine the car wasn't designed for and they did pretty well... :whistling:

(Obviously they were different circumstances, just saying it's not necessarily going to be a disaster)

Green and blue are often present in Ferrari GT cars. It could be a good combination with a predominantly red color of course, but every time Ferrari ever tried something like that it ended up as a disaster so perhaps they should stay away from it in F1 at least.

I was wondering Ricciardo move could be a pivotal point to Renault's project as well. They spent huge money in him to see him announcing his departure one year later - looks like a massive dent in the project and I'm not sure they are in a position to make a big offer to attract a big name.

Or maybe Renault pulled the plug and Ricciardo took the best deal he could.

That or one specific Spanish ex-driver of theirs is going to show up once again.
