Two more cars get into Le Mans as they've added two more garages

A 62 car grid is epic.

Just ironic that in the largest field ever in the event's history, it is the fewest number of cars ever that have a legit chance at winning.

I'm starting to be in favour of scrapping the prototypes alltogether and just have it a GT race.

Would be fun to see GT1 reborn to replace the prototypes. JR Hildebrand actually wrote an interesting blog about the idea early last year: https://medium.com/@jrhildebrand66/the- ... 60216e2257

That article seems to be have been written at the time when there was a lot of talk about the "hypercar" regs in planning, which were then announced last summer. Despite the "hypercar" moniker originally the idea was LMP-like purpose-built cars with only "road car styling cues" - no actual road going homologations. The freedom in styling is supposed to be possible because most performance figures are strictly capped (power, downforce and even drag).

No OEM signed up despite further changes to cut costs, so now couple of weeks ago they bent over even more and plan to include homologation of existing road legal hypercars. 20 cars woud need to be built within 2 years (great rule: if less than that are built are they going exclude the car from results retroactively? yeah sure). This also means there has to be heavy performance balancing between these road car based and the purpose built ones.

So currently the idea for the top class from 2020-21 onwards is a car that almost as heavy as GTE and only slightly faster than GTE, with BoP, performance caps and on top of all of this they also came up with a success ballast system.

And still no OEM has signed up and the cars are supposed to be on the grid next year in September.

As expected, Ford GT program comes to an end both in WEC & IMSA.

Semi-works or private cars are still possible.

WEC at Spa is a yearly tradition, but with weatherforecasts like this, I might skip a year.

Is there a reason this race always takes place on a Saturday instead of a Sunday :?

They race until 21 or 22h, which would be late for people on a Sunday.

So Hartley is replacing Alonso at Toyota, not a phrase I thought I'd ever say

Whaaaaat? Why is Alonso not coming?

Edit: ah, after le mans

They are expecting snow on Saturday morning, 4 to 5 degrees in the afternoon, 1 degree by the time the race ends. Good luck to the brave visitors, but I can imagine they'll cancel the race.

Has always been like this, as far as I can remember.

Yay, 5C and light snow is not ideal for a day at the race track.

Great racing in ELMS!

Yesterday I was really surprised I left them racing in those conditions in Le Mans Cup.

I think it's the first time I see racing with lightning strikes visible on camera!
