The problem with the car is that it's too close to the #8.

This problem has now been resolved. The threat to the #8 has been removed.

There was a team radio message that explicitly said something to the tune of "Forgot to put fuel in the car."

Cheeky team orders, or classic incompetence? I think both are plausible...
