GTLM leader is on the same lap as the overall leader. Quality endurance racing.

Corvette Racing and Porsche North America’s day got off to a tough start as the Nos. 3 and 911 GT Le Mans were involved in a major accident in final GT practice at Virginia International Raceway.

Both the No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Jan Magnussen and No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR of Richard Lietz reportedly went off in Turn 1 on oil laid down by another car.

The two cars made heavy impact with each other near the barriers, which brought the 90-minute practice session to an early end.

Lietz, who is awake and alert, is being transported to a local hospital, while Magnussen remains in the track medical center, with a further update to follow from IMSA.

magnussen is reported to be okay, lietz seems to have suffered a broken left arm, unfortunately...

Three cars have blown up in the Continental Tire race and they're only seven minutes in O.o

That was some heads up driving to avoid getting caught up by that car spinning back on track.

Looking forward to this race a bit more solely because GTLM is the headline class (+ VIR <3). Surely the useless coverage will do its best to make it not seem so.

Jordan Taylor in for Magnussen and Michael Christensen subs for Lietz, so a full GTLM field at least. Nice that PC got their own race so they won't spoil the GT show. :) Just too bad it collides with Indycar.

Ooof, another one for my "Oil on track" collection at Darcy's

Seemed a really harsh impact though, what did they say was the condition of the drivers? Or did they just say "both injured"?

The 3rd placed Viper got some serious air in the esses! It was shown just very briefly before they cut to the pile-up in T5

Did Fox seriously miss the start or did the int stream just not have commentary in the beginning?

Fox didn't miss the start. I was actually not underwhelmed by the coverage until the first ad break.

The international stream NEVER works for me. Anyone got any alternative streams? My TV's on Indycar right now.

Is there any reason they won't let prototypes race at this track? It looks long and wide enough to have all classes together.
