did Robin Miller say anything on the broadcast?

don't remember him talking during the race but was doing stuff in pre race show.

He was all over the international feed at least,

He even aired his opinion that he thinks Honda will pull out after the 2016 "150th indy 500" ( ) and the rest of the broadcast team didn't even acknowledge he'd spoken. Somehow I think he'll be in trouble for that.

They have almost a year to make a decision on this shit anyway. Next time they'll head to a big, banked oval will be Texas 2016.

An hour after the race, a senior IndyCar official admitted to RACER that it wasn’t the downforce levels that were at fault, per se, but the competitions department of IndyCar had overestimated the rate of tire degradation. The cooler-than-expected conditions ambient conditions (nearer 90 than 100) meant that cars were stopping at the end of their fuel stints, rather than because they were using their rubber too fast.

Only indycar can take a good race and turn it into a Pr disaster.

This is Paul Hadsley challenging Mark Miles to GTFO and go play golf and bring in a new CEO that gives a shit about indycar...

If the fans really wanted changes, they can get this done by turning off the TV/computer/not attending the race.

... that's the problem, this appears to be exactly what people are doing. To paraphrase Tony Kanaan's quote yesterday, it is more acceptable to take those kind of risks in front of 100,000 fans instead of 5,000.

Despite enjoying the race, I kind of agree. If I had to ask what drew in the crowds before to CART races, I would say that the fact that the cars were cutting edge technology and had massive, potentially record breaking raw speed mattered in many ways more than how many leader changes occurred in a race. 15 years ago they were qualifying Fontana at 240. Now they qualify at 215. Doesn't sound like progress...

Yeah, I died a little inside when they put that piece on the rear wing to hold the cars and create fake unrewarding overtakes. But yesterdays race was anything but fake.

From IndyCar Series facebook:

Quote:
There were 3,173 on-track passes in the ‪#‎MAVTV500‬. Of those, 2,537 passes were for position. For the year, 6,247 on track passes have taken place. 51% of those passes came on Saturday at Auto Club Speedway.

That's really amazing statistic. 8O

I thought the only problem was a lack of respect for cars with new tyres. Unlike Vegas, there's plenty of room to race at Fontana but the cars were weaving all over the place which increased the risk factor.

Tbh, there was never going to be any respect for any of the competition with 3 laps to go. If you let the guy behind through you're never getting that place back.

Sure, but then you can't complain it's dangerous.

Nice! I usually don't rewatch races, but this I'm going to watch again. During the British GP would probably be the best time to do it.

Just rewatched the race and I'm baffled. Just about 5.000 spectators? I'm from a village that has about 2.000 people living in at the Arctic Circle and once in a year there's The market day that brings about 10.000 people to it. And what's the show we get in the market? Some random guy playing his accordion. And people applause to that and talk about it later on while no one knows that this race and this racing series exists. God damn it Indycar!

And Indycar has a population of over 10 million to tap into in the area, that's like 2 Finland's

They need to race at Fontana in February. That way there shouldn't be any wildfire threat like there is in the late summer-early fall (2003) and not in the middle of summer either (2015) for obvious reasons. September-October is usually really hot in southern California anyway. I think it would be cool to have a 500 mile race at the beginning of the season but maybe they can't do that because they want the Indy 500 to be the "first" 500 miler of the year.

Anyway, here is a quick 2016 schedule I came up with:

February 21 - Fontana 500
February 28 - Phoenix 200
March 13 - Mexico City
March 27 - Streets of Miami (yeah screw St. Pete)
April 10 - Austin
April 17 - Long Beach
April 24 - Barber
May 14 - Indy GP
May 29 - Indy 500
June 4 - Detroit
June 5 - Detroit
June 12 - Texas
June 26 - Road America
July 10 - Cleveland
July 17 - Toronto
July 31 - Iowa
August 14 - Laguna Seca
August 21 - Mid-Ohio
August 28 - Milwaukee
September 4 - Boston (screw you Boston, you don't get the finale)
September 18 - Pocono

That's only 19 distinct venues, which is pretty close to what they wanted (18 IIRC).

seeing that crash onboard you just realized if it wasn't by the cable attaching the front wheels, the left front would bang on Briscoe's head and had a different outcome

Chances are that tire would have gone flying off through the grass before it bounced back towards him. I'd almost say it made it more dangerous in that situation for Briscoe.
