That's some evil looking sky there... I'm sure some of it was due to the camera's settings, but that's still pretty ominous.

Sato needs to be doubly benched.

the top 3's thoughts on the track

"Pocono gets a bad rap for incidents that can happen anywhere" - Dixie
"Our cars suit this track" - Power
"I love racing here & the other superspeedways" - Pags

-

the only problem I got with Pocono is how the fencing is in turn 2, and some of the open top walls down the back shoots, especially where they got the road course K-rails storage. When discounting those things + the need of a proper spotters stand for the back end, the track is relatively fine on it's own.

the rest of the problem is the insane bunching on the starts & the small amount of practice here (and yesterday was more than normal in race trim)

Man i've always been a fan of Sato, but that was a DIPSHIT fucking move...

BTW, what in the hell was up with the safety team taking well over 2 minutes to get to Rosenqvist? Commentators were trying to play it off that they must've had radio comms but we both know the safety team didn't go "He radioed in that he's fine, let him sit." There was an obvious derp somewhere somehow that luckily wasn't worse.

Pretty alarming how it took so long for anyone to get to Felix. At least one person just checking on him right away would've been better.

It's interesting seeing the Tunnel Turn being the cause of so many issues for Indycar when it's modeled after the corners at Indianapolis.

Sato's not wrong. Rossi comes up half a lane as Dixon pulls clear and Sato pulls alongside him. Sato still moves down a bit but depending on his FOV he may have thought there was 2 feet more room to his left based on where Rossi was when he pulled alongside.

Pocono is a great track, too bad that when is not the bad weather are the crashes that ruin the races there

Both moved, but Rossi got scared of Hunter-reay and made a very sudden and strong move left*. Sato was on the racing line more than those two. And would have been clear of Rossi before getting into the turn and if they weren't 3 wide.

*Edit: Correction - Right

Sato posted on Twitter some more, this time uploading the telemetry onboard

-

meanwhile

(also of note: couldn't of been Taku with Lloyd in that race as Taku was out after crashing by himself on lap #1)

The high risks and small margin of error of motorsport and the mob-must-have-its-scapegoat mentality of social media are really not a good combo.

Cunningham of all people shouldn't be entering this discussion.

Why do they practice for 2 weeks at indy and race with almost no practice here? The drivers just don't have time to get used to the track and cars

Yeah that's pretty dumb. They could at least run two practice sessions on Friday but they don't run at all on Friday.
Just let them practice 2 full days, last hour if day 2 qualifying. Would solve many if these dumb lap 1 crashes. I hope Pocono stays on the calendar, or at least another 500 mile superspeedway race to replace it.

If Pocono doesn't come back, at least replace it with Cleveland
