Iowa Speedway kicks off Speedweeks for the region - as they host the first short oval race of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season this Saturday night with a 300 lap contest. Iowa is noted for some pretty hard racing over the years, and the track surface has become more tricky in recent years. After several years of racing on Sunday afternoon, the track & the series has moved it back to it's traditional Saturday night slot that many fans preferred. Supporting the race weekend will be the ARCA Menards Series on Friday afternoon. Sage Karam will once again race for Carlin this week in the #31. got corn? There is a storm threat for Saturday afternoon. I hope it remains a threat, and with a cloudy sky, it could be a lot less hotter as expected, which is great for walk-in attendance and for the racing itself. |

Even with the cloud, it's going to be the wrong side of 30 degrees (85 Fahrenheit if you are a philistine) for the entire race, assuming that it is held and completed on time. |

hopefully the entire midwest & east coast can have a break from the heat without any wet weather several tracks in the northeast have canceled because the forecast is so hot |

Having worked on the car and sat in the stands when the mercury soared past 100*, I can tell you it sucks. Popping the hood on the Pro Stock with the water temp banging away at 220* and every tube on that clip ready to blister your arm for the slightest touch. Can't even think about touching the lugnuts without gloves (slick track so lots of brake bias forward.) Ugh... No thanks. We were going to go to Lime Rock, then thought about maybe the Valley, but not with temps at 100* and the heat index well North of that. |

for sure, racing in that type of heat sucks in general - doesn't matter what your doing, it's been a few years but I remember a couple nights where it was above 100 for Charlotte when I was racing - A few of the drivers thinking there might be some vision issues with the race running in dusk rather than a full blown night race. Some also worried about the condition of the track surface going into today https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/m ... 691446001/ - Practice #1 is green |

Race was due to start shortly I thought? (7pm local) so it'll be getting dark soon and will it dry up in time? |
