I can't believe there is still that giant standing tower in the middle of the track with a so tiny wall between it and the racecars Same with the pitroad. If a car goes over the wall, no fence and into the pit with hundren of people working there. It's never late to do something and put a fence between the pitroad & the track. All the American tracks did a brilliant job in the past 10 years with all the improvement and nothing about that tower ? Hope it'll never happen of course but they can do something to avoid a possible disaster for sure. |

Almost every major track in the USA doesn't have any sort of catchfencing between the pit road & the track. Catchfencing would help, but any hit into the open poles at pit entry it would be just as dangerous IMS surely knows the risk, but I think they are still figuring out the best option in terms of catch fencing (there is some development going on for a new safer fence) no way in hell the scoreboard gets removed though at IMS |

I've always thought it was crazy having a structure like that right next to the track too, imagine if some cars went airborne into the pits or into that structure.... would be terrible |

What are you guys talking about? The scoring tower on the front stretch? |

They added catch fencing for MotoGP so it's probably somewhat feasible if it's strong enough (which might be the issue). But yeah, if you take a look at other tracks, it's a similar situation. I can't remember ever seeing fencing on any of the Indycar pit walls (might be wrong, but checked and definitely Pocono and Gateway does not). Pocono also has a (smaller) scoring pylon protected only by a pit wall. (Pocono's such a wide track that it's less glaring, but it could have similar problems.) |

Hope it'll never happen of course but they can do something to avoid a possible disaster for sure. In the 1993 CART TBK league, John Stein ( @ FHgrad99 ) in the #5 Mackenzie Lola actually flipped onto the pit straight and nearly hit the scoring tower, so...it IS possible. That was actually one of the scariest things I've seen in any racing sim (in this case, rFactor). |

TF? Why did they time the laps from somewhere on the backend of the track instead of just from the S/F line? |

They've done that for years. It means they can pit straight away after doing a lap and don't have to trudge around |
