Never liked this track but I'm looking forward to it as it's the first race of what looks to be an exciting season.

First race on the 2018 calendar to be genuinely excited about. Though I agree with iks that the track itself isn't particularly appealing.

Track would be much better if they went straight on at turn 4 and skipped all that car park shit. Regardless, this is clearly the best racing series around nowadays and I'm looking forward to it

Or perhaps it would be better if they incorporated more of the original track used in the 80's-90's (turns 6-9)

Yeah, the only problem is the old track goes in front of too many businesses and condos on Beach Drive (as well as making things weird for the Vinoy) that might complain too much (Back then noise complaints brought the original GP down.) If you look at the current track, an advantage it has (from a city point of view I'm sure) is it doesn't block off *too* many retail business or condo type houses -- really just one side of a few buildings, one of which is a hotel so I'm sure they don't mind that much.

Mostly the track blocks off all the stuff in the center that's tourism / entertainment related. They probably "mind" but it's probably much easier to negotiate with them.

This track unfortunately isn't the greatest, but it's better than that crap track they ran SCCA around Tropicana field a couple years.

From my viewpoint, I think you could've made a better track if you used both runways. Not sure why they didn't do this TBH as the airport is for private jets only. I guess private jet owners are a harder group to please than a concert hall, soccer stadium, and art museum. :p

Never been so excited for the season in years.

Also worth noting, we have 24 cars starting, that is a good 3-4 cars up from the previous years for St. Pete.

Also, the strongest rookie class in recent years! Robert Wickens, Matheus Leist, Jack Harvey, Zack Veach, Zachary Claman de Melo, Jordan King and Rene Binder. And a full season for Spencer Pigot and Gabby Chavez, so I think we could be in a for a proper shake-up.

I think a few of those entries are not full-time, but it's still gonna be nice to see a field that size on Sunday.

Only Harvey and Binder. And if someone shoves a few more coins in Shank and Juncos' direction...

----------------------------------

I think the racing here should be better as the increased difficulty in applying the throttle cleanly should allow for some passing down the runway at least.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Gonna try to at least watch some laps.

Somehow lost all appeal from this track with the old Indycars. They looked so heavy, underpowered, easy to drive yet impossible to pass.

Watching the 1994 Cart season made things 3 times worse, you can even see those cars spinning the tyres out of the corners, so much power, and a lot of overtakes even at Surfers Paradise. I really hope things are better now.

Still looking forward for Indy on ovals.

Yup, but that's what I meant by 3-4 cars up from St Pete in previous years. It shows some initiative and commitment from new teams, except the usual Indy only entries.
