Cleveland might have a chance on the 2017 schedule if funding is found for the current IndyCar sanctioning fees (around $1.5 million dollars or more)

Need more thumbs to like all this news more.

Especially Cleveland. Could we dare hope for a future with both Road America and Cleveland on the schedule... :excited:

I dont mind the classic tracks coming back. In fact I love that kind of news.

But... really, at least 1/3rd of the schedule should be ovals. We also need more of those.
Whats up with Nasville and Gateway these days? Id even apprechiate Motegi. And than there is Phoenix and Michigan... Try Bristol if you need to!

Oval racing seems nothing but trouble these days. It's either too boring or too dangerous with nothing inbetween.

Fans bitch about lack of ovals then bitch they're too dangerous, or too dull.
Indy is about the only oval race that people seem to agree was tast and even that had a whole load of flying car shit to wade through

I too wish there was a lot of flat, under 2 mile ovals out there for Indycar to put a show on, places like Milwaukee, Iowa, Loudon, Chicago, Nazereth etc.
But sadly of those that are still around the only one that is still doing semi-well is Iowa..

The debate about if Indycars belong on banked NASCAR ovals is a different debate for another day, but since they can't draw a crowd to any kind of oval except Indy...it's not really a debate that's going to decide how Indycar goes oval racing any more.

Fontana and Michigan were originally designed as AOWR venues.

Pocono was as well

Indy, Pocono, Michigan, Fontana, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Iowa, Texas (I guess... Though I'd rather see CoTA and give Eddie Gossage two middle fingers.)

If we throw out Texas, that's 7 ovals. Four, 500 mile races at the Super Speedways, two 300 mile races at the 1 mile tracks and one 250 lapper at the 7/8 mile short track. That's seven ovals. If 1/3 of the schedule is to be ovals that leaves a 21 race schedule. My wish would be for Nazareth to not be a derelict hunk of shit, but I have a lot of wishes that won't come true.

Only Phoenix and Michigan are missing from the current schedule. Andretti needs a stellar crowd to keep Milwaukee alive for next year though.

If Milwaukee and Elkhart Lake dont work together, Nazareth would make Pocono go away.

I liked Nazareth, but Pocono is way more awsome.
There must be more 1 mile ovals to got to. More Iowas.

It's still active and in business but no major racing series have races there as far as I know.

Dan Wheldon won the last IRL race at Pikes Peak in 2005.

They had a really healthy crowd in 2005:

The problem is always weather or not this old tracks have safer barriers.

Lausitzring and Rockingham, UK are great tracks as wenn, but need SAFERs. Lausitzring would have to be repaved as well afaik.

They had a really healthy crowd in 2005:

The track was sold in 2008 by ISC to the current owners, with that sale came a deed restriction with it. That restriction being that the track can't host a racing event with more then 5,000 people in attendance if it's a sanctioned series (NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA, SCCA, USAC, GRC) and that the race can't be nationally televised with live coverage. That contract was because ISC was going to build a track closer to the Denver area but that never happened. They have had some big name series at the track in the last few years though, those being Global Rallycross in 2011, USAC Silver Crown/Midgets in 2013 and the SRL Southwest Super Late Models (formerly the NASCAR SW Tour) in 2013 and 2014.

However there is still 1 planned race track to be built near the Denver airport, but it looks like it has been on hiatus for several years. http://www.theschuckcorporation.com/ind ... eturnid=26

Not really related to this specific season but, 19 years ago today we lost indycar driver and Le Mans winner, Jeff Krosnoff (as well as track worker Gary Avrin) during the Molson Indy Grand Prix
