IMS has uploaded the '69 500 - as most would expect on this 50th anniversary for Mario |

Semi-random but early in the split it's shocking the difference between CART and the IRL - watching old IRL races and it's so, so shitty. The cars sounded awful, looked cheap and awful, mostly no-name drivers, just this real amateurish small-time feeling to the whole thing that is charming from like, ASA and shit but not what one expects from top-level motorsport. This so soon after the peak glory of early 90's CART would have made me despise the IRL had I been really cognizant of what was going on at the time of the split. Like damn it must have sucked so hard then. The racing was pretty good but that's the only upside. CART, while dying, retained its sense of being a top form of motorsport at least until 2003~ to me. Then only after that and particularly after the merge did IndyCar start to suck less. IndyCar is real good now like it's the form of motorsport I watch most consistently and the one I am most entertained by by far but it will never be at the peak of the CART days I don't think. For me CART, from the 80's to the dawn of the 21st century, is just, the best shit. The mix of incredibly cool cars, high speeds, street circuits road courses and ovals, and the great teams and drivers, great tv coverage (an important thing that took a nosedive after the split), etc. it was just the best. |

Yeah everything was just perfect and I somehow knew and thought to myself back then (despite being a kid) that these CART IndyCars were something special. I don't get that feeling nowadays with any form of motorsport. Only MotoGP is close...but that is two wheels. And no, this isn't to be mistaken simply for nostalgia (not that i'm not nostalgic). Seriously, fuck Tony George. |

The IRL only survived because it had the Indy 500 |

Road America 1999 is one of my all time favourite races. I used to have that on VHS and watched it over and over. |

I honestly thought she was a goner or severely injured at best. When she was interviewed afterward I was very relieved yet shocked. She was obviously pretty shaken though. Much better driver than Danica. |

I couldn't think of a worse place to have a rear wing failure than the kink at Road America |

Can't believe it was 13 years ago now. It's such a horrific looking accident and it still surprises me that she walked away. |

Got chills watching that again. She's very lucky her car went into the fence rear first; otherwise I think that's essentially a fatal accident. |

I'm glad they still race at Road America, and didn't modify the kink following that. |
