In all my years of research, I've never seen a picture of this car until now:

About 30:15 on in the '78 Bump Day video is Jim Hurtubise's shenanigans. Tom Carnegie sounded pissed off.
Just posted by IndyCar: The 1989 500-Mile Race

So... I was watching the 2001 race on Youtube and I like to go on the Wikipedia page for the race and see what happened to some of the drivers I never heard of.

I opened up Jon Herb's page (16 starts, 4 finishes in IRL between 2000-2007) and it turns out that the guy was jailed in 2016 for 25 years for child sexual abuse and posession of child pornography after reaching an agreement where he dropped an insanity defense, or else he could've been sentenced to life. I actually looked up to see if there were any mentions of this on the forum but found nothing.

Does anyone recall this story coming up anywhere?

here's another video from epaddon's channel a mixture of the French television coverage & the radio coverage from 1972

the channel also has portions of 1966, and a few news features from the 70's + the Johnny Rutherford racing show's highlights of Ontario in 1978

Nascarman and Brock Beard have put together a really good deep-dive video about Gordon Smiley, which goes far beyond *that* accident.

As usual for Nascarman and Brock, it's fantastic work.

just saw that, a pretty enjoyable in depth over drivers who wanted a shot for fame and didn't got it

Nascarman just put out a really good writeup of the infamous Hurtubise incident from 1978, when Jim Hurtubise disrupted the last day of time trials.

Love Mario. It's amazing he drove those 60s cars and drove the 90s Indy Cars.
