I had forgotten Dixon's crash was last year. He was so lucky.

Meh. At least the trailer is a bit over-dramatic/sentimental.

Indeed, but I can't recall a bad race on this decade or at least with DW12s.

Yeah. The DW-12 has been a game changer as far as the quality of racing is concerned. It was kind of like what I pictured Indy would have been with ChampCars equipped with a Handford Device. The closing rate for a trailing car was just ridiculous. I hope we see something similar tomorrow.

I suspect it will be a three hour conga line.

Nice, my favorite was the previous year. 2002. As Helio said, twice is better. Best victory celebration interview.

Specially having Helio winning in such a dramatic fashion. I normally only watch races more as a neutral viewer, only for good racing. But that day I was truly a fan.

Lol, wasn't pointing at anyone. In fact, was one of my purest ever posts, just genuinely saying what I feel.

Are you a Paul Tracy fan? I thought that it was Montoya.

Or are you a hater of the driver who stayed the longest ever driving for the most respectable Indycar team ever? I love Helio. Having Helio and TK at Indycar throughout the years was one of the best things for me. Love their personalities and enthusiasm. Shame that you can't do the same. Actually, a shame that you turns into a cat 5 depressed ex with TPM when Hamilton is not wining    . But no, I wasn't posting thinking about you or anyone for that matter.

Helio? Ehhh
Not as good as Greg Moore would've been and too many jump starts to be a genuine great
The lack of a series championship really is a blot on his record imo
I don't care how big the Indy 500 is, it's not as big an achievement as winning an entire championship
(which is obvious, as the championship includes that race too ;) )

And he definitely didn't win in 2002 :p

haha the funniest thing is that he never won a championship, not even in a junior formula

When he was about to win the south american F3 all the argentines let the local contender pass to take away from him haha

I think he meant that as a ChampCar fan more than anything else. The argument made by ChampCar partisans was that Tony George and the IRL didn't want a CART/ChampCar driver winning the 500 for the third year in a row - Montoya had won in 2000 and Helio, when Penske was still a CART team, won in 2001.

Hard to believe that was 16 years ago.

I believe Helio still holds the record for most points scored by a non-title winning driver. He would have won every post 2008-season championship even under the 2015 double-points system with that 2008 number. Pagenaud equalled that points record last season but with two double-points races. He had 15 Top 5s in 17 races.

It's also been noted that if they ran old school NASCAR style "race back to the line" rules, Tracy would've won

If they were using modern style timing loops, Tracy would've won

It was only a quirk of the rules at the time that caused a MASSIVE grey area than the IRL took advantage of to hand the race to one of their guys and then tell everyone it was un-protestable (after they'd spent a lot of time on legal fees building a case to protest it, obviously)

I wish I could find my old "Paul Tracy-True winner of the 2002 Indy 500" avatar, I'd love to dust it off every may :D
(Even if as the years go by, I'm the only one who still cares :p )

I remember the 100th running was a massive disappointment, a long green flag run of not much happening, then fuel mileage after that.

Aside from that, they've been pretty tast.

It's all about the perspective and what do you compare it to. 100th running was not as great as the race before or after, but it was not a bad. Bad compared to other races, but as an individual race it was all right. There was the "GYSOT wall"-moment (who made that comment?! ) and Townsend Bell gimmicks for example. And what about the winner and the winning strategy?

In my books, it was yet another great Indy500.

I don’t remember much about the 2016 500 as I was very drunk at the time but I do remember just how tast it was to see Rossi just barely make it. “Holy shit he actually did it!”

Plus, he seemed to be a really out of left field winner.

He was really fast all month, though. The circumstances and the strategy made him and unlikely winner.

Here's live video of Paul upon seeing that post:

(Real talk though, I fucking hate the IRL era and Tony George's bullshit so much anyway, and Paul Tracy won that race and you can't change my mind)

If Paul Tracy was at front at the time yellow came out the IRL surely would bring an overtime or just red flag it
