I hate when they show some unrelated onboard while a battle for the lead is taking place, then show a half assed replay and say "while we were watching this guy all by himself, we missed this action live. Oh, and the cameraman barely caught it. So here"

That's a nice shot, the problem is in the middle of the straight in a giant TV screen.

I've lived in a few former (and current) locations of CART/Indy Car events but it's been a long time since me being there and an event taking place coincided. Now that I live in Vancouver, Canada, I'd really like to see Formula E and Indy Car return. Apparently, two years ago a city councillor tried to gain interest in a Formula E event but I guess local interest didn't grow enough because Formula E probably isn't "green" enough for the vocal minority here. If it were a bicycle race...sure!

I'll try and contact her and see what's going on and report back here. :D

They should run around BC place again, it'll be a sense of nostalgia :)

I made this layout in about 10 minutes. It could work. Needs a few chicanes, but who knows where they would go.

doubt that layout would work fully as I think they have built more on the back side of the old track now

Hinch not wanting the domed skids for the superspeedways, says it could ruin this year's 500 and cause other major safety issues. Also at the end of the article it's starting a rumor about Fontana returning in 2017.

You don't need a degree to see where this is heading, fixing problems that don't exist and creating worse ones as a result seems to be the favourite 'to-do' job atm.

The two cars that took off at Indy last year were as a result of the sudden direction change caused by the impact with the wall, something a hedgehog would do in the same circumstances, not because the floor was flat (ok once the car got in the air, the floor didn't help, but it wasn't the route cause), Castroneves flew because, durr, racing cars tend to take off when driven backwards at 220mph, I can't remember the last time one of these cars did a sideways blowover (Chicagoland?), which is what these things are supposed to prevent.... and the rear bar flaps may stop a Castroneves type accident....

Oh, domed slid blocks need more ride height for clearance, cars take off more easily when more air get's under the floor.... what could possible go wrong?

other than Briscoe's hit at Fontana, every blowover/half flip had a decent bit of contact before going airborne with the DW12 too

This may be an issue of liability. Somebody somewhere has to cover their ass because it's specified in their contract that the car should remain on the ground when it's spinning (travelling at 90°). They will focus on that, and take a huge safety margin to ensure it never happens.

If the car hit the wall already, or another competitor, they don't care. They would be cleared of any responsibility because any subsequent take-off will be attributed to external reasons and they wouldn't be liable for it.

I am purely speculating here as I don't know who holds the stakes. But I have seen many less-than-ideal, borderline counter-productive solutions being chosen for this kind of reason and ass-covering and compartmented, divided responsibility issues. It's infuriating, but unfortunately it's the pussy-ass lawyer-driven world we live in today where having balls is often punished harshly.

This is quoteworthy and not only for racing.

Can't we just go back to 1995 set of rules with 2016 safety improvements for tracks, cars and drivers? There would be awesome racing and no flips...unless it's because of gravel.

Even Briscoe's flip happened because the car was going backwards, the last one I remember going over while travelling sideways was Buddy Rice, and he had help.

If it is some lawyer covering their arse somewhere kind of thing, it shows how little they understand these things, if a car could, potentially physically become airborne with say 3cm of ride height, if you double that ride height with an anti-flying device, you're allowing twice as much air under the car, I don't know how much that increases the percentage but given the shape of the car, it sure can't decrease it.

Don't the cars already run a form of ground effects, or are you talking full monty Chapman style ground effects?
