That Road America highlight at the end was interesting. Never knew Hector Rebaque won a CART race.

25 years ago today, it was a miserably cold day in Indianapolis.

Indeed and it played havoc all damn day. 2/3 of the Andretti family wound up in beds at Methodist while the other dominated all comers only to have it all come part with victory nearly in sight.

I remember watching that race live. Probably what kick started my love of Indycar.

You mean half. Can't forget about John Andretti.

That intro is so synonymous of Indianapolis before Tony George fucked it all up

But still the best finish in the history of the great race if you ask me.

I've been watching the Delta Force intros the last couple of days. The music and the Paul Page narration still gives me chills.

Damnit. You're absolutely right. I forgot all about Johnny.

It's ridiculous how many drivers actually ended up at Methodist because of that race. Nelson Piquet, Hiro Matsushita and Pancho Carter during practice, then Tom Sneva, Jim Crawford, Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario and Jeff Andretti, Jimmy Vasser and Brian Bonner all went to the hospital from injuries during that race if I remember correctly.

Sharing this because it's a new video from one of my subscriptions and I've watched every 500 since 1990 and yet I still do not recall ever hearing the name Steve Knapp (finished third in this race) ever in my life.

I did a little Wikipedia research on him, looks like this podium at Indy was really his one and only big time racing moment.

All I could remember from 1998 was this big crash.

Funny, I watched '98 Indy today as my lead in (watched '84 yesterday).

IndyCar uploaded the race at the Meadowlands from 1987

-

not IndyCar / AOWR related, but it is feeder series related so I guess it fits.

Randomly found this USAC USF2000 season highlights b-roll video from 1997 on YouTube last night. Includes footage of the Charlotte race where they ran on the oval with a chicane in turn 1 (at 25:18 or so) :8:
