this whole Formula E thing reminds me of the "Farce India" chapter

Back when it was announced everyone laughed about it.
Now, however, it's a team that is respected and a team which (I'm sure you will agree) everyone hopes to do well.

Same will apply for the series, I'm sure.

Definitely I'd vote this for the "fan boost" soundtrack.

People thought the A1GP and Premier League series was stupid until they got on track and started putting on amazing racing.

Same will happen for this, if the racing qualty is good, it'll win us over.

ATM we're just victims of its marketing team, without any racing to distract us from the stupidity ;)

It's basically an all-new blank sheet of paper motor sport, so we shouldn't be hung up on what more traditional motor sport does.

Personally I think it's time they started adding "weapons" to the racing, not missiles but perhaps lasers, so if you "shoot" an opponent their car has a detector on it, which makes them lose speed for a period perhaps? Or is that too WipEout?!

Any other ideas for making this more of an entertaining show, as opposed to something like F3000 with electric power?

Asked a driver about the fan boost today. 'Yeah, it's a bit much...' was his reply.

I think the Fan-Boost thing is ridiculous, If they want to have some sort of P2P system then just do it like Indycar does & give everyone x-pushes for x-seconds during a race or per-car or something.

The voting page is up BTW:
http://fanboost.fiaformulae.com/

I'm not particularly hyped about this series but I'll check out the 1st race anyway & see what I think.

Part of my lack of excitement is that I just don't see electric vehicles been the future, I've got nothing against them as other petrol heads do, I just don't think there the answer to the long term problem.
Then there's also the silly things like the fan boost & having to swap cars Mid-race etc... Just all seems a bit gimmicky even if the car swap is simply to get around the technical limitations of the equipment.

I can actually sense fan opinion turning on this series, the initial "OMG artificial crap!" reaction is fading and being replaced by "Hmm, these cars don't look too bad you know, I wonder how they race?"

They're going a good amount of publicity too, not only did they do the whole Westminster closedown run but local news here in Birmingham have been covering the tests extensively and have been covering the series well.

There's obviously a lot of skepticism about the concept but there's also now a growing swell of support for the series that just want to see this electric racing series actually work.

And, hell, racing in our traditional motorsport off-season isn't going to hurt us as racing fans, obviously we'll be giving it a look ;)

It's a double edged sword. Fans will bitch because of the whining of the electric power units, they'll also bitch about the artificial sound effects. So the latter is the way to go because noise helps create atmosphere and is part of the pleasure.

As for the fan voting, Codename is right... the series is creating good publicity and let's judge once the cars are racing on track instead of bitching about what they're doing now.

Turns out they are actually slow. During the first test they wanted to be around Formula 3 speed, then progress forward from there. They're actually 10 seconds off of Formula 3 around Donington GP.

I can see a lot of drivers who signed up for this getting very bored when it turns out the cars are the slowest thing they'll have raced in a decade.

Pretty good field of drivers, too bad they are this slow. Maybe they should remove the wings to get rid of drag and weight?
