...and Percat into the T8 wall with 3:30 left in the race.

If you're under ten laps to go, just run over on time, it's ridiculous to make this a timed event with such little laps left to run.

Courtney wins it.

I think they need to change the restart rule. Far as I can tell, that's what caused that big crash on the restart. They should keep the 60 km/h rule, but it should be that the first car has control over the restart. If he goes above 60 km/h, then he gets penalized, but if he does, then no-one else should have to slow down, that just causes confusion. Maybe even speeding up the restarts to 80 or something may not be such a bad idea.

By the same token they could have started the race half an hour earlier... or they could have finished the last 2 laps and not shown the driver interviews after.

Channel 7 had to go to the national news at 6pm, so running the race longer was not really an option.

The timed races have been in play in the series since Channel 10 took over broadcasting the series in 1997 (though timed races in Australian motorsport go back alot further, for example the 1992 Sandown 500)

Single file restarts worked for decades in NASCAR. V8's follows exactly the same principle, all they need to do is increase the speed to 80 and not allow the fanning until after the S/F line.

Yep, just don't allow passing until after the s/f line.

It did look cool as fuck though watching them fan out.

It's just not sensible for a first corner like here, there are probably other tracks where it would be fine.

I've only seen the crash and not the analysis but it did seem like one of the mercedes cars was not up to speed and a lot of people had to dodge him which was a contributing factor.

If people use their heads and don't go any more then two-wide, it should work at all of the tracks. Having said that, the way it is now, at some tracks, if even one or two cars get out of line, then there's going to be an accident. Also the rule about people having to stay at 60 km/h regardless of what the leader is doing, is going to cause more problems. It has the same effect as someone getting a really bad start.
