I don't think a car has ever ended up there before. There were definitely some people in the ute it hit but it looks like they got out.

Looks like he kicked his way out of the windscreen (which did get punctured in the wreck).

Means he starts from the rear today.

McLaughlin's going to be starting from the back of the grid today because CAMS discovered that his qualifying engine from Bathurst was running an illegal valve lift. His Bathurst win has not been affected because the engine they ran in the race (which was different) was legal.

JESUS......CHRIST man

They spent so much time making the outside of that corner safer with the tarmac runoff and stuff, and then this happens.
Looks like they didn't consider a car spearing off to the inside as much as they did the outside...

Next year that whole area will be a sea of tarmac with just 2 white lines to denote the track, probably

(Terrible YT quality of the crash for speed, until on of the proper crash lads uploads it better-er later on)

Not as bad as I expected, but pretty bad none the less. Barriers need to be taller or catch fence needs to be installed.

That is true but I don't think anybody could have ever thought that a car could get launched over the barrier there. You'd be hard pressed to find footage of anybody ever even hitting that inside armco.

And to be fair, at some point they did add tyres down there to stop people smashing into the embankment there which is at a very bad angle to the track. Although, if you watch the replays on this, you can see that those tyres don't extend all the way across and that he may have still ended up hitting that very hard had he not got launched.

I agree but I think they'd need to do more then that. There's a dip in the grass on the inside there and then a service road which got the car slightly airborne before it hit the wall.

Jake Kostecki smacked into Youlden and put him off track. Jake got up to 3rd momentarily which is an amazing showing for a very small team.

D'Alberto just got spun out.

Kostecki smacked into Pither as he was leaving his pit stall. Bit of a comms fail.
