The race is now a fuel mileage one again. Vodafone will probably get 5 laps more than anyone as usual.

Lowdnes tried his hardest to do a David "And in to the pit lane...WOAAARGHHHH!" Coulthard moment from the last GP here but JUST saved it.

A Safety Car now would be freaking epic with those struggling on fuel being able to make it and Whincup on better tyres having to pass them on track...

Fucking blatant blocking on Davison by that Holden being lapped, practically pulled over when Whincup came up on it.

How was that boring? He drove amazingly, his laps were just phenomenal. Very exciting stuff. People say Whincup is only at the top because of the car but Id like to see anyone else do what he did today in that car.

I normally hate fuel mileage racing, and I was pulling for Davidson, but that was freaking TENSE :8:

Sadly it seemed like both Will and the team gave up a lap from home and just let it happen, but not often you get a last lap pass for the win on a street race!

More of the same please tomorrow V8 Supercars!

they really need to put some sort of safer type barrier at the exit of that flat out turn, and that was amazing car control by Lowndes!

Yeah I really am surprised they have not incorporated a safer barrier at T8 given the accidents we have seen there in the past

Don't know if a SAFER barrier would help much, might soften the hit a bit, but not sure how it would work on a street circuit with temporary concrete blocks. Didn't stop Jason Bright having a whinge about Turn 8 though...

Speedcafe wrote:
Jason Bright has demanded that the Clipsal 500′s Turn 8 be changed following his massive Lap 5 accident in the opening race of the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship today.

Bright has sustained a shoulder and hip injury in the accident after his Team BOC Commodore slipped on oil laid by James Courtney’s factory Holden.

It remains unclear if the #8 Team BOC Commodore will be repaired for tomorrow’s race.

Bright says he was a passenger in the crash, but he should never have been in the position to sustain such great damage and injury.

“Turn 8 is ridiculous. They have to improve the safety there,” Bright told Speedcafe.com.

“That is probably one of the biggest hits I’ve had, and they haven’t done anything to improve that corner.”

Adelaide’s notorious Turn 8 has been the seen of several significant accidents since its current ‘sweeper’ former was introduced 10 years ago, including that which claimed the life of Ashley Cooper in 2008.

Brights says that track officials need to have a serious look at improving driver safety at the corner.

“We need a ‘Safer’ barrier there like NASCAR and they need to improve the angle even more,” he said.

“The wall doesn’t need to be on edge of the track, it could have a kerb there and there doesn’t need to be a guard rail on the inside of the corner. It’s absolutely ridiclous.

“Until someone else gets killed there, they won’t do anything about it. I think the whole f***ing thing needs a reshape.”

Not really a whine, it's a genuine concern. Someone has died there..

Exactly, and people often get hurt there, you simply can't be blasé about safety especially when it's something screamingly obvious

At least no-one ever seems to go into that wall drivers' side first.
