Peter Goddard had a tyre blowout at Hockenheim in 1999 but managed to stay on his bike, despite the speed. He took out Igor Jerman, and this was what was left of the Kawasaki:

Image

There's no footage of the actual crash, but I assume Jerman tagged the back of Goddard's Aprilia and was sent head-on into the armco, hence the front wheel being torn from the bike.

They had some serious bravery to race there.

8O Thanks again ChiliFan

But are you sure about the year?! I captured this crash from the show "Ausser Kontrolle" and they showed this episode in the beginning of 1999!!!

I have the entry lists for all the races in the 90s, and the 99 race is the only one that matches with the numbers and bikes. The North West 200 is usually early in the year. I'll have another look at the entry lists though. The sheer number of Honda RVFs would suggest 1997, but there appear to be a few Yamaha R1s, a bike that came out in late 1998.

I'd like to think that there are more bike fans here than on the old TK, but it might just seem like it because of the smaller member list. Either way, it's nice to be able to give people these clips. 1998 is on its way, including live coverage of the Laguna Seca disaster, Yanagawa's Monza fireball, and Troy Corser's dramatic warm-up accident at Sugo.

And while we're talking about Hockenheim, I'll name all the accidents I can remember, which happened on the straights:

1995 - Andreas Hofmann - highsided approaching 2nd chicane
1996 - Anthony Gobert - pushed off at Ostkurve by team-mate Simon Crafar
1996 - Troy Corser - collision with a private Ducati
1996 - Troy Corser - ran wide at Ostkurve and bailed out

None of them were injured. And here's a nice pic of the first lap in 1995. Pirovano, Corser and Slight approaching the Ostkurve flat out:

Round 1 of the 1998 WSB season, live from Sky Sports. :)

It comes in 6 video files, because if I joined them in VDub the audio went out of sync by 4 seconds by the end. You don't have to join them together, unlike RAR files. Use a download manager to get these files so you can resume them, since some of them are over 600MB.

I now have 18 DVDs of the live coverage of the 1999 WSB season. Every session, from Sky Sports and Eurosport. A complete collection thanks to one very kind man in Wales. I'm so happy. :D

Image
Duration: 0:33
Size: 8.97MB

Race 2

Macias crashes at the chicane
Image
Duration: 0:38
Size: 10.3MB

The chicane claims another victim, this time Noriyuki Haga on the new Yamaha R7
Image
Duration: 0:44
Size: 11.6MB

Gregorio Lavilla has the first of many crashes with his Kawasaki

Alastair Maxwell has a monumental accident at turn 3. The back of the bike gets away from him, he slides into the tyres and the bike demolishes itself
Image
Duration: 0:19
Size: 5.08MB

The fantastic final lap battle between Carl Fogarty and Troy Corser, decided by 0.005 seconds
Image
Duration: 2:09
Size: 34.7MB

Round 3 - Donington

Saturday Qualifying

Ex-125cc champion Alessandro Gramigni crashes his private R7
Image

Less than 10 minutes later, Lavilla has gone back to the pits, got on his spare bike, and come out to do some more laps. At the exact same spot, he crashes again.
Image
Duration: 0:41

Race 1

The start of the race 1 chaos. Igor Jerman's bike blows up and drops oil all over the braking point for turn 1, taking himself and Carlos Macias out of the race.
Image
Duration: 0:50
Size: 13.3MB

Next lap round, all hell breaks loose as Colin Edwards slips on the oil and runs wide, Chili and Haga just manage not to fall off, Yanagawa crashes, and Keith Huewen goes apoplectic in the commentary box. Then Fujiwara almost gets highsided, and Haga crashes at 5mph after saving his bike from slipping.
Image
Duration: 2:06
Size: 33.8MB

The third top rider to fall on the oil is Pierfrancesco Chili.
Image
Duration: 0:58
Size: 15.4MB

The marshals ruin another man's race. This time it's local wildcard Lothar Kraus on his private Kawasaki, who gets knocked of by Carl Fogarty because he didn't know he was being lapped.
Image

Size: 25.2MB

Finally, 9 laps after the initial incident, Colin Edwards crashes out and goes to give the marshals a piece of his mind.
Image

More to come.

If anybody's interested in the history of the World Superbike Championship from 1990 to 1999, I've come a long way with my website. So far there are complete championship results for all those seasons, videos for 1998 and 1999, entry lists for each race from 1997 and 1999 and a full race report from Jerez 1990.

1989 - 250cc GP at Hockenheim - A first lap pile up takes out several riders, with Ivan Palazzese severely injured and lying on the track. Virginio Ferrari sees him, stops his own bike and runs over to help Palazzese, then assists the marshals with the recovery and CPR. Unfortunately Palazzese died as a result of the crash.

1994 -World Superbikes at Misano - After an oil spill takes out several riders and the marshals do nothing, Stephane Mertens (who crashed on the oil) grabs the bucket of cement dust and spreads it over where the oil is, then stands by the track holding the oil flag.

2004 - World Superbikes at Imola - Chris Vermeulen highsides on the warm-up lap and destroys his bike, so Giovanni Bussei stops and gives him a lift back to the pits to get his spare bike in time for the start.

1985 - Transatlantic Trophy - Mallory Park - Steve Bonhomme

Race leader Steve Bonhomme has a huge tankslapper coming out of Gerrards and is lucky not to be hit by the following riders.

1985 - TT Formula One - Brands Hatch - Keith Huewen

One of my favourite clips. The greatest F1 commentator, Murray Walker, commentating on the greatest Superbike commentator, Keith Huewen.

Image
Dimensions: 640 x 480
Size: 8.91MB
Duration: 0:31

1988 - TT Formula One - Mallory Park - Brian Morrison

Morrison highsides coming onto the front straight and it then hit by Jamie Whitham. Both were unhurt.

1989 - 125cc Grand Prix - Misano - Alex Criville

A spectacular highside for a young Criville.

Image
Dimensions: 640 x 480
Size: 6.10MB
Duration: 0:22

1989 - 250cc Grand Prix - Misano - Luca Cadalora

This has been featured on several Havoc videos, from another angle. Luca Cadalora falls, then his bike is hit by Daniel Amatriain and Bernhard Schick. Note the marshal on the left almost getting hit as well.

Image
Dimensions: 640 x 480
Size: 8.21MB
Duration: 0:30

1989 - 500cc Grand Prix - Phillip Island - Randy Mamola

Another well-known accident, this time including a second angle.

Image
Dimensions: 640 x 480

Duration: 0:46

1989 - 500cc Grand Prix - Phillip Island - Eddie Lawson

High-speed collision between Eddie Lawson and Kevin Magee during qualifying.

Image
Dimensions: 640 x 480
Size: 13.4MB
Duration: 0:48

1989 - 500cc Grand Prix Support Race - Phillip Island - Rob Phillis

A classic. Robbie Phillis crashes and takes out Shawn Gallagher, while Peter Goddard takes the race win and Aaron Slight drifts his Kawasaki across the grass.

Image
Dimensions: 640 x 480
Size: 13.0MB
Duration: 0:46

One of my main piece for my A-Level Fine Art coursework. Gregg Black in the 2007 World Superstock 600 race at Brands Hatch (click for ridiculously large pic):

Image

Done with plain old pencils, ranging from 6B to 4H. This took me about 8 hours in total and I'm really pleased with it.

Remember Rossi carrying the blow-up doll around on the slow-down lap in 97? Biaggi wasn't too pleased then.
