Didn't it have a fatal crash as well (or at least in the Supersport/stock race)? But then so did Brands recently so I can't imagine it having much to do with safety

Yeah, someone was killed at the Supersport race at Kyalami in 2003 (?)

I think it was before then. Kyalami was dropped by WSBK after 2002

Dave will know his name. He was a South African and quite good iirc

Sounds similar to Craig Jones' accident at Brands.

Maybe they (the WSBK) were forced to drop it because of the proposed building works there?

There were plans to turn it into a karting track in the early 00s, weren't there?

Then some new owners came in and thankfully nixed them, and the racing came back.

The provisional 2009 World Superbike calendar, released by the FIM on Sunday, shows no round at Brands Hatch - traditionally one of the biggest events of the year - whilst confirming a return to Kyalami in South Africa.

Jonathan Palmer confirmed in the Guardian today that Brands Hatch couldn't afford the sanctioning fee being asked for the race. Apologies for being unable to find a link on the Guardian's website.

Dutch site RTLGP.nl says that the MotoGP team of Honda will retire from the championship. They have it from some spanish media sites. Friday will there be a official press release about this news.

Another one of those bold "it's going to happen tomorrow" stories. So I'd say it's likely even though Honda have already denied they're planning on leaving before

This would be another big story for racing

I would lose all my respect for Honda if that is true, they where at least successful in motogp so don't see why they should leave there.

Honda are withdrawing from the American Superbike Championship next year, prehaps this story has got confused with the MotoGP rumours? Ducati have also withdrawn from the British Superbike Championship.

Bad, bad, bad news for MotoGP. I wonder whether that will impact their WSBK programme.
