Its going to be the last season on British Eurosport though as BT Sport will show it exclusively from next year. Which is a bit of a shame as it means no more Toby and Julian

SUZUKI IN 2015 and now APRILLIA IN 2016!!!.

Quote:
Aprilia to make 2016 MotoGP return after 12-year absence

Aprilia has announced it will return to MotoGP in 2016, 12 years after last racing in the category.

Roberto Colaninno, chairman of Aprilia owner Piaggio Group, confirmed the marque's plans on Tuesday at the Milan Bike Show.

"In 2016 Aprilia will return to MotoGP to win and match the success it had in [World] Superbikes," Colaninno is quoted as saying by Reuters.

"We've got two years of work ahead of us."

While Aprilia's last season in grand prix racing yielded little success - it finished sixth in the 2004 constructors' championship with just 39 points - it has gone on to enjoy massive success in World Superbikes, winning the 2009 and '11 manufacturers' titles.

It also helped Max Biaggi to his two WSBK crowns.

The Italian manufacturer suffered a blow last month, however, when its highly-regarded racing boss Luigi Dall'Igna – who had been instrumental to that World Superbike success – was appointed as Ducati Corse's new manager.

Aprilia's return means MotoGP could potentially boast five manufacturers in 2016, with Suzuki having confirmed its own return one year earlier in 2015.

Aw, sweet. Now where's Kawa? Would be cool if there's enough MotoGP bikes so that CRT's could be ditched.

That's great news having Aprilia back also, but quite frankly their last MotoGP effort was pretty pathetic. The last thing of merit they achieved were two third places for Jeremy McWilliams in 2000, including that epic British GP battle with Rossi and Roberts Jnr.

To be honest, and I know Aprilia has a huge heritage in 500cc, 250cc and 125cc GP racing, I mostly remember Aprilia for this...

Nothing better than buy out your rival series and turn it into crap after having "borrowed" their regulations.

It's like 2003 all over again.

Doriano Romboni is apparently in critical condition after a crash during a charity event to raise funds for Marco Simoncelli's foundation.

Let's hope he can recover. :(

the crazy thing is that apparently the crash was quite similar to simoncelli's one. It's written that he fell, remained on the bike and cut the racing line while another rider was passing. here are some picture from an italian site

[attention] may depict a fatal crash

How tragic. RIP to Doriano. He's a name I grew up watching when I first truly got into motorcycle racing in the nineties. It's sad and ironic to lose in considering the circumstances.

Honda is threatening to quit MotoGP should standard ECUs become mandatory in 2017 - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111887

I'm torn on this. On one hand manufacturers come and go, Honda cannot hold the sport to ransom for their own benefit, but then again Honda is in the fabric of MotoGP. Standard ECUs have done well in F1, perhaps Honda should evaluate the success (or failure) of standard ECUs in other top class racing series before making the jump.

Semi-interesting news: The Spanish national championship (CEV), which is also run by Dorna, will be organised by the FIM in 2014. Essentially it becomes an international championship which holds 6 races in Spain and one in Portugal. In other words, Spain and Dorna continue to tighten their grip on Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
