Damn I missed race 2.

The result is so like F1 1984 championship. Not only are the champion and the runner-up divided by 0,5 points. Also Sykes won the aborted race with half points at Monza. Who could have sensed back then, that this decision to red flag Monza will cost Sykes the world title.

My respect to Biaggi and especially to Sykes. Amazing season.

Burnicle actually said that when Monza was red flagged this could cost Sykes his title. Too bad.

What happened to Kawasaki this year? So close to their first win since 1993 but before 2012 they haven't been all that competitive. Was it the move away from Paul Bird Motorsport? Was it more funding? Was it Sykes?

What ever is was, more in 2013 please and I hope they can secure a title. It is great to see Kawasaki so competitive.

Half a point. That has to be a tough pill.

Was really hoping for Biaggi to stay in P7 in second race but both men deserved it equally so well done Max.

Whether it's Tom or the bike, the steep drop-off in the second half of so many races is something they need to fix for sure.

Biaggi announced his retirement this morning. Always best to go out on a high. And, for the time being, he holds the record of being the oldest WSBK winner at the age of 41 years, 3 months and 16 days.

Aprilia currently have Eugene Laverty signed for 2012 and Sylvain Guintoli's name is being linked with the available ride, probably only because he's not signed with anyone yet. However, Althea (who split with Ducati last month) are considering joining forces with Aprilia, which would surely leave Davide Giugliano alongside Laverty as he is contracted to Althea Racing for next year.

Another great rider is retiring. Max wasn't always the most poular guy but his talent will be missed. How many riders won their first ever 500cc race? If that was his only win it still would be an amazing result. It also reminds me how the time goes by as I remember vividly watching Max as an unknown youngster winning the 250cc European Ch. race at wet Rijeka track in 91 (Steve Hislop was fourth r.i.p.).
Thanks for all the memories Max

Max Biaggi - the true champion of the 1998 500cc World Championship.

He'll be missed.

I think I'll miss amusing age-related statistics almost as much as I'll miss Biaggi's talent and contribution to the series.

Did you know that the combined age of the podium finishers in the first race at Miller this year was 110? And that their international careers spanned a total of 54 years?

Still a small grid, which will also include wildcard rider Jamie Stauffer for the first round.

Hopefully if Dorna actually want to keep the series going in 2014 and not just kill it they'll make some changes to the regulations - and not by making their expensive electronic parts mandatory to "level the playing field", but hopefully by removing the control tyre and reverting to slightly more stock specs.

And so it begins, the constant stream of poor decisions that will lead to the demise of a great series.

Although I support the decision to bring WSBK and WSS closer to production-series specs, I think there are less extreme ways to go about it.

News:

Indian Round postponed until November 17, making it the season finale (almost a month after Jerez).

Dorna want to limit the cost of a full season in WSB to 250,000 Euros per rider - which would cover two bikes and all expenses apart from crash damage.

Brett McCormick still doesn't have a ride for this year, and Liberty Racing have announced no plans. Sylvain Barrier is in talks with the HTM team who are running Ivan Clementi. AMA SportBike Champion Martin Cardenas has left his team for this year and apparently wants to compete in WSB in the future.

Provisional entry list for Phillip Island next month:
