The Cup Series returns from Easter/Dega break for some short-track racing at Richmond, as does the Nationwide Series, coming from another horribly shitty race at Nashville. The ARCA boys will be going short-tracking as well at Salem Speedway.

Also on Thursday will be the first annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown from Richmond, featuring a slew of Sprint Cup and short-track drivers competing in late models. This will air LIVE on SPEED at 8pm ET.

Cup: Matthew and Daniel Hansen 400 - Saturday @ 7:30pm ET on FOX
Nationwide: Bubba Burger 250 - Friday @ 7:30pm ET on SPEED
Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown - Thursday @ 8pm ET on SPEED

ARCA: Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 - Sunday @ 2:15pm ET

People getting all up in arms about ESPN "not having room" for NASCAR on its schedule. With the NFL Draft and NBA Playoffs, I guess it's understandable... but the question remains.

Will it be the ESPN broadcasting "team" calling the shots??? Man, I hope not. Seeing as how Fox owns Speed, I'm really hoping to hear plenty of Rick Allen PRAHBLEM moments on Friday night.

I don't hold out much hope for the Nationwide race as the one I saw last fall was the most boring race I've ever attended and if I'd payed money to go I would have been pissed. The Cup races have tended to be better than the Nationwide races at Richmond lately, but I'm going to drive four hours away to go Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday night instead to see some more local racing (and I'll probably still spend less than I would on those $90 Cup tickets). However I will be at Richmond on Thursday night to see the K&N Pro Series East and the Short Track Showdown and I'll be cheering on my friends C.E. Falk and Matt Waltz.

Wish they'd show the East race live. At least the LM race is being broadcast.

Thanks to the brilliance of NASCAR and SPEED (sarcasm), they are showing the K&N Pro Series East race from Greenville-Pickens at 6pm on Thursday, the same night the series is racing at Richmond.

Also, here's my highlight videos from the previous two Short Track Showdowns at Southside Speedway:

Yeah, the problem is Speed doesn't cover enough NASCAR. Yep.

They will be in Late Models that fit the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car rulebook. Comparatively, LMSC have less power than the average Super Late Model at ~450 to the wheels and have a minimum weight of about 3100 pounds. This is the 5th running of this race and honestly it's lost it's roots now that it's at RIR and NASCAR is running the show, but hopefully the fact that it's a televised event will bring some exposure to many of the talented local drivers. I'm just hoping they don't get screwed out that opportunity with everyone's fixation on Cup drivers and celebrities that will be in the race. Not to mention Richmond is probably too big for Late Models anyway, it's pretty much going to come down to the teams that spend the most money. Hopefully the race will return to Southside Speedway next year, or maybe move to Langley Speedway where it really should have been this year. But regardless it's at Richmond this year and I'm hoping to see a good race and a local driver in victory lane.

You're dedicated man... I only live about an hour away from Radford (Motor Mile), 20 - 30 minutes from Kingsport and Lonesome Pine and can't bring myself to go in fear that the racing will suck. Let me know how Radford goes. If it's good, may take the plunge and go up there myself sometime. I always wanted to go up there back in the days that the Busch Series raced up there, but never got to go.

From what I hear, Kingsport has been pretty interesting so far this year. Motor Mile has been a bit down on cars in LMSC (which means they're at about the same level as all the other tracks around since they used to get the most cars in the region by far). Lee Pulliam has dominated the first two races but they have twin races for the Late Models this weekend so that might shake things up. Between the 5 races that night I'm sure I'll see at least one good one. Besides, tickets at pretty much every short track I've been to are only $10, it's not like you're losing much if you see a boring race every once in a while.

Got my ticket for the ARCA race at Salem (sitting with Kessinger and his dad like we've done the past several years at that race). Hopefully it doesn't get rained out. It basically hasn't stopped raining in this area for about 10 straight days. We've had 13+ inches of rain in the month of April alone in Louisville just a few miles south of Salem. :8:

Markham used to race at Lonesome Pine quite a bit back in the day also. Think his day job now is a spotter for one of the JGR drivers isn't it?

Trevor Bayne won't be racing at Richmond this weekend.

Jayski.com wrote:
Bayne Undergoing Medical Tests; Will Not Race in Richmond: Roush Fenway's [and Wood Brothers Racing's #21] Trevor Bayne has been hospitalized and is undergoing tests for symptoms that are thought to be related to the insect bite he sustained earlier this month. "Trevor was not feeling well early this week and he is currently being evaluated for lingering symptoms that may be related to his previous insect bite," said Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark. "Unfortunately Trevor will not be available to drive the #16 Ford for us this weekend in the Nationwide race at Richmond [Bayne was not scheduled to run the Sprint Cup race as the #21 Wood Brother's team runs a limited schedule]. As of now, our plans are to use a substitute driver from the Roush Fenway family of drivers in place of Trevor at Friday night's race. Obviously Trevor wanted to be in Richmond and he's upset about not being able to compete. However, his health is our top priority and we insisted that he have these tests to get to the bottom of his symptoms. We will work to provide you with further updates as they become available." Currently qualifying for the Short Track Showdown here at Richmond, live updates can be found at http://www.race22.com, and of course the live broadcast on SPEED at 8:30 EDT. Max Gresham is on the pole for the K&N Pro Series East race.
